ipad instead of oem radio? (2004 model)

My oem radio/console has suddenly gone dead and I'm thinking of installing an ipad instead. Is there any reason I shouldn't do this? Should I shell out 400 bucks for a replacement oem radio/console? The original oem equipment seems very outdated.

Are you talking about pulling your OEM radio and installing an iPad in it's place? Or adding USB connector? Considering the stock radio unit dates to 2003, outdated certainly fits

I'm talking about removing the OEM stereo from the car altogether and putting an iPad in its place

Are you referring to an appradio from pioneer that kind of looks like an iPad by any chance?

I've found a competent car audio guy who will install an Apple iPad Pro (not an appradio) by modifying the bezel.
Will the car's function be impacted at all if the original OEM radio is missing altogether?

Well, this should be an interesting read. Please keep us updated on this. Haven't seen this done before in an XLR. In an Expedition, I have.

does anyone know what happens when you take the OEM stereo out of this car? Most installs I've seen relocate the radio to the trunk

Won't cause any errors. Will show a fault if you run test with tech2. No big deal. Not sure if onstar will still work? As you might be disabling the mic?

Well if you decide to go back factory I have both head unit and cd changer out of my 06 that were working when made the upgrade to pioneer
Sell them both for 400.00
