I had the new shocks installed Friday, I went with the OEMs, what an amazing difference, it totally changed the ride, no more harsh bumps etc.

Hi Mitch,
I have to replace my shocks soon- they are starting to leak and the rear driver side is lower than the rest of the car.

How many miles does your car have?
How much did the shop charge for labor?
Did you purchase the shocks online or through the dealership?
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark, I bought the shocks through GMPartsOutlet.net, total cost for shocks was 2274.00 with free shipping, and a promo of 5% which amounted to 119.00. They were great to deal with responsive and fast. My 2007 has 120000 miles on her. The shocks we're overdue. I had my independent mechanic, who is awesome, charged me $350.00 labor to install. Let me know if you need additional information. Mitch

Hi everyone,
Bit the bullet and ended up buying my shocks on Ebay using this vendor: multiparts1 on eBay
No tax, free 5 business day shipping, total was $2,377.
Great deal considering the dealership wanted $4,391.
Saved over $2,000!!!! Their mark-up is insane.

Part #'s for 2005 model:
Cadillac GM OEM 04-05 XLR Rear Suspension-Shock Absorber 88952529
Cadillac GM OEM 04-05 XLR Rear Suspension-Shock Absorber 88952528
GM OEM Front Suspension-Shock Absorber 88952527 - must buy 2 of these (driver and passenger are identical parts)

I hate to spend this much on my car, but the way I look at it.....if i bought something new at $500/month- just 5 months worth of lease payments would cover these repairs.
It's a shame that GM didn't do a better job manufacturing the magnetic ride control shocks. They SHOULD NOT be leaking and failing so soon.
I didn't buy a Mercedes SL500 because their air shocks are known to go bad (as low as 30k miles!). Obviously the XLR is in the same boat.
Won't ever buy a car with these type of shocks again....it doesn't improve the ride quality THAT much.
The Tesla Model S has an option for $8000 air shocks. I wonder if theirs will have the same issue???!

Who did the install???
