I've read about a paint scuff on the roof about a pencil eraser size. Well after washing her down yesterday I decided to drop the top for the day. There was already a little, light clear coat scuff about 3/4 the way back on roof about where the side window ends and about 2" in off the drivers side. So when I was retracting the top I watched everything and when the roof is stowed in the trunk I stopped before the trunk shut to see what was hitting the roof. I thought the screw end with the torx's end that are on the brackets if you look at the bottom side of the trunk lid. Remember reading that grinding a little off should solve problem so I did. Lowered the trunk and drove around for the day. The day was beautiful, the car felt totally different topless awesome. I popped the trunk later and saw that the screw that I ground wasn't touching the roof but the actual bracket that the screw is threaded through is slightly rubbing on the roof. Question is is their any adjustment I can do or anything to solve the problem I am pretty capable I just don't want to open a can of worm's?any advice would be appreciated thanks.

You can do a search on this site and find a ton of threads about it. A lot of people on this site have had the same problem. I had it with my 04, but not my 06..

It's easily fixed!!

It seems to me that either that bracket is somehow out of position, or perhaps the top is not latching down properly. The next few times you put the top down, open the trunk and check to see if the left and right latches are holding the top down tightly. If you can lift the top with your hands -- even just a little, there's a problem with the latches. My 04 had that problem, and the dealer found some bent support rods after their xlr tech contacted higher level support. The bent rods were keeping the top from settling all the way down, and the latches were grabbing air.

Thanks I'll look at the latch Assy. for the roof. To adjust per the latch adjustment is it very very precise or doable with machinist ruler. Once adjusted do I have to worry about nocking out of wack for some other position?thanks for your responses.

If you find that the top isn't latching down it's less likely that the latch needs adjustment, and more likely that there is some other issue preventing the top from going down fully. In the case of my 2004, as I recall there was something bent -- possibly a hydraulic cylinder rod or something like that.
