Do you guys know what part this is on the pic? I purchased the car on Copart and by the time I got it home, it was missing. I'm currently repairing the engine wire harness and tracing back all of the severed wires. Any help/input is much appreciated! :dunno:

Part ID - wrecked XLR

Based on the photo, the approximate location, and the look - my guess is that this is the ECM & TCM (Engine Control Module & Transmission Control Module). They are typically located behind the wheel well on the passenger side. These are the brains that control the engine and transmission - not trivial parts.

Based on the fact that the wires are severed (and there are a lot of them for the 3 connectors there) I would be suspicious of the integrity of the computer modules themselves. They may have survived the impact, but you won't know until they are tested. Luckily, you can buy used ones or refurbished ones, and have the reprogrammed for your VIN and mileage (these have to match to pass many state laws to license the vehicle)

The only reason I know all this is I had to remove these things to be sent out for programming (hot tune and transmission shift point changes), when I replaced the rear end transaxle gear ratio. PCM performance-dot-com can do this, and sell you a spare set, if yours are bad.

Good luck - that is a BIG job you have there!

Hey Thanks PAK XLR8! That was really helpful. I have 3 severed cables bundles here which should lead back to the 3 missing connectors on the ECM/ TCM Engine Control Module/Transmission Control Module. I will check out PCM performance-dot-com :)

Connectors - ECM & TCM

As noted in your first picture, there are three connectors that plug into these modules - Blue, Black and Grey - to ensure they are plugged into the correct receptacle.

Also, the sheet metal looking part that is above the modules in your photo is the mounting bracket that attaches to the frame/body - you will need that to mount the ECM and TCM properly. You should try to get those modules and bracket from the source you bought the car.

Like I said, there are a lot of wires to keep track of and your biggest challenge may be getting the connectors to reach to the mounting location, if you can figure out which wire goes to each pin. I have the 2005 manuals, with all of the connector part numbers and wiring diagrams. Send me a PM if you need additional help.

I was able to track down the Delphi ECM connectors thanks to PAK XLR8... First couple of crimps looked like crap but eventually got the hang of it. A few hundred more to go. :D

Where was it located?

Hey can you tell me was it located under the hood, under the fender, or where the fuse panel is?
