Only at idle. Initially thought fan, but was coming from rear. On a lift, sounded like tranny- mechanic pulled off rectangular rubber cover showing spinning clutches(?). Took to tranny shop & they said not tranny or “torque tube”. Also could not recommend where to go next - Northstar related or Corvette?? Caddy or Chevy dlr?? Just moved to Durham, NC a year ago - have seen exactly 1 other XLR! Any ideas for step 3 would be greatly appreciated!! Thanx!

Vin,,,, I would find in Durham a good independent Corvette repair shop, and let them check it out for you.

Good luck.... Report back when the issue is found and fixed

I had a weird, unaccountable squeal that would "present" at idle, and then fade away, and often would return, especially audible with the top down. Found out it was the serpentine belt. The squeal was hard to pin point, but the tech put belt dressing on it, and it went away for a short time... then he thought it could be one of the idler-tensioners, but it turned out to be that the original belt, with only 29,000 miles was the problem. Replacing the belt is not an easy task-- took 2 hours, and I helped him... this might be your issue. Hope this helps, James

Thanx James! Hoping to have a 3rd mechanic look tomorrow!!

Just an update!!Still have the issue - the one Corvette specialist didn’t want to touch it. Have been to 4 mechanics & started with front flexplate/flywheel - which has been a discontinued part. Found 1 in Wisconsin. Mechanic #2 that was willing to “look” & install said actually 1 of the 3 drive shaft bearings, but may as well do all 3 while in there. Once in & shaft housing removed, showed me a slight “little bend“ in the actual shaft - ordered entire drive shaft assembly that included all 3 bearings. And the flexplate I found ended up being for the rear!! $3k later no difference - back to searching for the front flexplate. After a couple weeks finally obtained GM part #12588467. NO LUCK multiple searches. Anyone out there have a good source??

well I have repalced a few flex plates/flywheels on other cars but only because of the damaged teeth from the starter .I personally do not see how it would be making any noise unless it was cracked and I have not seen that as being a problem. You state after a couple weeks you found one but then say no luck? so are you still looking for one?

Thanx for the reply mickeytee! Still not sure if it’s the problem - only squeals when it heats up & only at idle. Fortunately found one this evening on eBay- used with about 52,000 miles on it. Must have been a wreck - was an ‘05 & the shop had about 100 parts for sale. Should be here in about a week- will advise after install if that was it!! Fingers crossed!!!!
