I just drove a Camaro Xl1 with only 7.5K miles and it already needed tires! I heard that the XLR V was rough on tires also. I have a base XLR with 15K miles on the tires and they are still good. Is 7K what I can expect on tires if I upgrade to a V?

Thanks

It is usually the Driver, not the car that is rough on tires. Inflation and Alignment are critical factors. Next is the Right Foot.

The compound used in the manufacturer of tires in the sizes that fit the XLR and XLR-V and for that matter any high performance car is very soft compared to that used for a regular daily driver and it wears significantly quicker in normal use and even quicker with spirited driving. On the plus side you get better traction and road holding ability along with better braking performance.... and who wants an XLR-V to cruise around in like grandma anyway?

We changed out the V OEM tires at about 17k, tread was still deep enough but they were 7 years old (we're the 2d owners), starting to crack & not grippy at all. Don't know how the prior owner drove but I predict the replacement set won't last nearly as long due to the "spirited driving" issue! :thumbsup

I'm the 2nd owner of my XLR, I did not like the ride on the run-flat OE tires. I changed out the tires at 21,091 miles for Michelin Super Sport tires, they were rated for 35K miles, I picked up a nail and went to the tire store, imagine my surprise  when the technician told me there was not enough thread left to legally repair the tire, 41,708 on the odometer. So I got 20K on tires rated for 35K. I guess that ?I do more spirited driving than I thought. Just chalk it up to the Cadillac quotation "When you turn on your car, does it return the favor":). As a point of information my new tires are Goodyear Eagle A/S rated for 45K miles, less if I pick up another nail:D.

I bought my car second owner so I can't swear the originals were on it. I can say I changed them at 27,000 miles and the rear were worn out, the front were not as bad, but I got a deal on the full set so changed them all. I am happy with the miles they have lasted. The original pirelli run flats were on it and thats what I put back. I would be described as a spirited driver to say the least! They are not the quietest or softest tires around for sure, but traction is acceptable and wear has been also.
