This is a common problem. The resistors in the fuel level sending units become coated and thus insulated from the wiper arm.
The rememdy is to add a full bottle of Techron to the fuel on fillup. It may take more than one tank full, but invariably removes the coating and restores the sending units.
My car is in excellent condition, with 65K miles and no error codes. There is about a half inch rotation dead spot in my steering. It seems what ever direction the steering is deflected to, changing that "set" there is about a half inch of non responsive movement in the steering wheel before...
Albert, try this once. When you park for the day, remove your key fob from the ignition switch and keep it at least 40 feet from the car until you need to run it again. See if the battery stays up. I've been told there are circuits are kept alive when the fob is within reception distance.

Battery
AHAAA!!! No wonder my battery was going dead in a few days. My fob hung on a hook in the kitchen, barely 10 feet from my car. I had to use a battery tender (and still will) to use my car without having to charge it's battery.
I'll keep it in the bedroom, for now on 35 feet from the car...
There was a post several years ago, that spoke of this issue and recommended using Techron fuel system cleaner, every few fuel tankfull's to avoid the fuel guage malfunction. I have done so ever since and have not had the issue. It is available at all automotive stores, like NAPA, Advance etc...
Ya, I figured as much. thanks. I can live wirh it for now, Next time I get it to a dlr, I'll pay the bucks and have them look for any codes that may be present. Meanwhile, I is a minor distraction.
thanks for the help.

Thanks, V Happy. Next time I get the car out, I will adjust the steering wheel and see whether it makes any difference.
Again, I really appreciate your help.

I just took the car out to "relive" the symptom. I think I will just live with it, until it fails sufficiently to set a code or deteriorate to a point where it can be analyzed.
Thanks all for your input.. much appreciated.

I really appreciate your help, V Happy. I have a cheapo code reader. I haven't used it on the XLR yet, but maybe it will show a code or sometning. I'll post any findings.

I noticed they referred to loose wires in that thread. I thought this may be your problem with out being bad...
Thanks V Happy, for your help. I looked at the knowledgebase item and it referrs to a DTC code and a message on the DIC. Seems that I don't get any messages on my DIC, so maybe that isn't the problem. It is some defect, though as I definitely have a dead spot driving straight.
I got out the workshop manual. In the Suspension - Steering volume, it describes VES which means Variable Effort Steering. Reading its function, It's affect on the steering effort is proportional to speed. It seems this is akin to the Speed Sensitive Steering you described. Without equipment to...
