Help! Drain on trunk mounted electronic components

Thanks CC-- as they say, " It is what it is...." One more question if you'd so kind to indulge me... with 4 inches of standing water in the trunk, I assume that the top and ride control components were cooked... and one other follow-up--- where was the leak and how did you fix it? Thanks...

Help! Drain on trunk mounted electronic components

Dear All, I noticed with some trepidation a recent close up picture of GM's attempt at a one way water drain on the trunk sub floor that houses the expensive and sensitive top and ride control components. ON my recently purchased 2007, there is simply a hole... no pinched tube extending...

Popping Sounds in front wheels when turning slowly and sharply into parking space

I test drove a 2006 that had that popping noise that felt similar to what was described in the original thread by Perdidoguy. I too, had the sense that the car was stuck in 4 wheel drive, and that the front differential was not dis-engaging. Well, of course, our xlr's have a ton of options...

Run Flat tires and winter storage

Truly appreciate your advice--- did order a set of FlatStoppers -- feeling bad about having to put this beautiful machine away in rented, heated storage where I'll likely not drive it or even see it until late April or early May... The Maine road department does a fantastic job of keeping snowy...

Run Flat tires and winter storage

Dear All, My 2007 XLR has run flat tires, and I'm concerned about storing the car for a seven month (winter) period up here in Maine in a heated storage facility where cars don't move. DO I run the risk of damaging the tires? Appreciate your thoughts and advice. Gratefully, James

    Weather storage-- need advice

I've made arrangements for winter storage up here in coastal Maine... unfortunately heated car storage is entirely "booked," so it will be in an unheated facility. I am seeking your advice about storing the Xlr with chemical dehumidifying chemical packages in the trunk, cabin, and engine...

    Kenwood DNX893S in the XLR

Kenwood in the XLR Perhaps we can convince our XLR brother to quit his day job and take this show on the road... if he performed the install as a "house call," theoretically he could visit all 50 states and places in Europe and make a good living! It's incredible at just how antique the XLR's...

    Kenwood DNX893S in the XLR

With all of the potential improvements that the Kenwood has as part of its suite of features, and just how limited the original electronics are on the car, your initiative and anxiety and money appear to be a very substantial improvements. Thanks for being willing to share this and so much...

    Chatter when shifting

I suspect you've tried new transmission fluid... There are "labs" that perform a chemical analysis on motor oil, and I suspect, transmissions and differentials as well... basically, aside from checking on the chemical mix, they often times provide the owner with an analysis of suspended metals...

    Do you see XLR's

brake light When you say, " Got a new one on Ebay"--- should I assume one has to replace the entire array???? APpreciate you patience.... James

    Front end bug protector

I was reminded several days ago, just how messy the front end of a car can be with thousands of dead bugs smashed on the front of my sister-in-law's suv---she and her husband having escaped from the Florida hurricane. Did a bit of research, and note here that clear vinyl appliques that are pre...

    FLOOD CARS

Entirely agree with your comment regarding a private party purchase; however, in the case of rare exceptions, an XLR is simply are not available on Craig's list or from a neighbor, and the Hemming's and Ebay ads are, in my opinion, suspect. My wife and I shopped three XLRs, before purchasing...

    FLOOD CARS

A cautionary tale: Way back in the 60's, a friend of mine showed up at college with a brand new Alfa Romeo red convertible. Parents purchased the car for him at a substantial discount, as dozens of new cars were submerged in the Hudson River when the cargo ship flooded. The mechanicals were...

    Kenwood DNX893S in the XLR

Congrats to you-- now that screen and the contemporary "read-out" matches the rest of the car's exquisite engineering.... I guess all of us XLR owners need a "Mike" in our lives. Happy day to you. James

    Kenwood DNX893S in the XLR

You've got great friends.... perhaps, for the "right remuneration," a travel/install service could be established.... "The electronic upgrade can be arranged through a week's house call at your home in your enclosed garage... you provide food, lodging, and hourly time and material wage at $0.00...

    Kenwood DNX893S in the XLR

Thanks so much.... I'm new to XLR ownership, but have owned previously owned (aka: used) Cadillacs my entire driving life. GM's approach to audio systems has always been unusual-- with separate amplifier and tuner "head" units all the way back to the stone age where my '56 Sedan Deville had a...

    Kenwood DNX893S in the XLR

I'm convinced... lost patience with the FCC approved anemic FM modulators that require constant "engineering" to maintain some level of acceptable audio, and the original disc driven GPS is sad. Is it possible to purchase the components and install Pioneer system myself? We live in mid-coast...

    Kenwood DNX893S in the XLR

Perhaps you can begin a service that helps other XLR owners make this important technology innovation. Every element in these cars is innovative and strikingly beautiful-- If I could be guaranteed a clean install with the set up you describe, the $1,800 is a small price to pay. Checking with...

    Chatter when shifting

Transmission I am feeling your pain... As you likely know, there are many elements to the underside of these cars that are dynamically aligned, any one of which, if bent or shifted can cause an awful vibration that is synchronous to the torque/ aka movement of the engine, the drive shaft...
