Are there 2 accessory plugs?
Can the cigarette lighter connection be used for an accessory-- e.g. GPS.

I used the lighter socket to charge my phone. The console socket was bing used for my iPad. The lighter socket got the charger very warm. Not sure if that was because of the heat from the tunnel of ??????? It charged the phone just fine.

This winter I'm going to add some heat sheiding under the console. On our last trip I had my phone in the console and when I went to use it a message on the screen said it was too hot and had to cool off before I could make a call. My 1988 Arrest Me Red Corvette doesn't get as hot as our XLR.

Watch out because I found out also that the one in the center console doesn't turn off when the car turns off. At least that's the case on my xlr

While the service manual all but makes it clear that the outlets should shut off with the rest of the "retained power" accessories (e.g. the radio), the BCM does not shut off their relay when the car has been shut off and the door opened. This means it fails the diagnostic in the manual that says "replace the BCM". It's a firmware bug in the BCM code which GM seems to have chosen to not invest any effort in fixing.

BTW, the radio shuts off because it receives a command to do so, not because it has lost power.

The outlets will shut off when the car goes to sleep, which is 15-20 minutes after the car has been shut off and the last door closed and no key fob transmissions.

I found this small rubber grooved like material and cut it to fit ( L shaped) behind the shifter area to absorb some of the tunnel heat & it also keeps my iPhone from sliding around it stays right in place and you can even glance down at it because it right there and you can charge it too!
