Advice on swapping a phaser

Hello all

I have been hunting down a very modest oil 'weep' (not enough to call it a leak), which leaves oil on the alternator. For the longest time I thought it was from the rocker cover (left side) as I could wipe oil off the seal on the cover just behind where the electrical harness is bolted to the front of the head.
Cut a long story short, the oil is coming from the lower of the two phasers, just leaking out of the bottom of the fitting, where it clamps onto the end of the head.

Question. Is it possible simply to unbolt the old phaser and fit a new one, or does it need to be re-timed? And if it needs to be re-timed, does that mean rocker cover off?

Many thanks in advance

You mean the VVT's, if so you can just unbolt and replace. But be careful prying off the old one, as there is a Oil VVT valve just underneath that is very easy to break. I took a screwdriver and tapped lightly around the edge after breaking one of the VVT valves prying it off from just one side.
