CD ERROR on CD Player

2007 XLR base Model - the CD player recently quit working with 4 discs inserted, no noise or anything - would just give the CD ERROR message when I pressed the CD button to play. I thought perhaps it was jammed, so I removed the CD player, disassembled it, and removed the 4 disks. They did not appear to be jammed or damaged. All the gears on the motors appeared to be OK, and all of them rotated. So I reassembled it with no discs, and reinstalled it. Now every time I start the car, it sounds like the CD player is reading through all 6 slots looking for a CD, then it stops with CD ERROR.

Has anyone ever experienced this and if so, did you find a resolution.....or am I looking at a CD unit replacement?
