Discontinued diff part for 2005!! Help!

Hi my 2005 XLR Needs a new Ring & Pinion for the differential part number 88996686 but part is Discontinued!
I noticed the part number is different for almost every year and the V models too.
My question is can I fit a 2008 Ring & Pinion into my 2005's rear diff? if so do i need to replace any other parts to go with it?

I have read several post on this with people wanting to change the rear gear ratio that thought the corvette was the same. The ring gear and pinion should have the same part number as the later years if they will work. different ratios would have different part numbers of course. I will do a little research to check. I have a good used one as almost any wrecking yard does and should be an easy swap out and a lot cheaper than a new gear assembly which requires a lot of technical adjustment to get it set up properly. You will need new bearings, seals and fluid of course along with many hours of shop labor.

I agree, find a nice complete differential at a salvage yard from a 2005 with decent miles.
