HUD for updated radio

Has anyone solved for lack of HUD display when upgrading radio yet?

It won't happen. The problem is that there isn't any way to access the information (Channel, song, etc.) from an aftermarket radio. I reverse engineered how to talk to the HUD, but I don't have anything to send it. I looked into the iDatalink port as a possible interface, but the only applications I've seen display info on the aftermarket radio screen - nothing that implies the radio has a mechanism to report what it is doing.
