Programming my VIN# into a new/used BCM

Hello, my local repair shop, which is actually very competent, is trying to enter my VIN into a used body control module I purchased. He is having no luck clearing the old Vin out of the used module that I purchased. He did call a local General Motors dealership, and they seem confused as well. Any suggestions on what I can do to get this body control module programmed? Thank you in advance for any advice or details. Mitch.

Was your BCM a new or used unit?
