Welcome to the Cadillac XLR Forums!

Reskinning my drivers seat.

I don't think a Class Action Suit is very likely and GM knows it. The production numbers are just not high enough to be of interest to those firms that take such cases. Also there has to be damages. Unless I go and get a custom made, one off piece made that costs a bazillion dollars to make my only damages are the less than $100 I paid for the faulty piece they delivered. Not a real incentive for an attorney to take the case.

It is kind of the difference between theoretical law and real world stuff.

It all is disappointing and frustrating. My only real recourse is to solve the issue at hand and then publish the story on as many internet sites as I can in an attempt to have Cadillac/GM lose a little potential customer faith. A sole story will not make a difference, but if others having the same problem do it then maybe someone at GM will notice. Maybe I'm the only one this has ever happened to and it is an isolated problem.

Phrede,
I also recently purchased the seat bottom foam and it doesn't have the plastic attached to it either but it seems easy enough to remove it from the old foam and glue it to the new bottom. Does that appear to be a non-workable solution? :dunno:

Thanks Dave,

That does supply another piece of the puzzle. However, mine was misaligned at what I think must have been the original installation and the duct from the blower did not align with the hole in the plastic. It is just about worn thru and the film needs replaced. There was other signs of not being installed correctly where the foam meets the rails. So now I'm looking too find a piece of the film I can cut to shape and glue on. Not knowing for sure, it looks like common hot glue holding it on. Did you heat yours to remove it or just pull?

Not if it is a "Class Action Law Suite" which would include all XLR Owners. A large Law Firm would do it with no out of pocket to the victims filing the action.

I'm with you Phrede & Robert, let's start a thread and find out how many other members on the Forums to will join us in a class action law suite!

I personally don't like dealing with any dealer and my Grand-father on my mother's side was a MASTER AUTO MACHANIC and he taught me how to completely re-build the entire power train on cars and light trucks before I was in my teens. Whenever any of the family had a problem with their cars, we'd all get together and push, tow or get the car on a trailer and take it over to him and within about a week he'd have it back on the road.
I remember when I was about 6 years old, we had an older Ford and my mother had a gas station change the oil and the machanic put the drain plug and had an emergency at home and had to leave without telling anyone he hadn't put oil in the engine so the station manager thought it was done and the engine froze up about a mile from the station. How did the station handle this? They told the machanic he was going to have to replace our engine so he quit and moved out of state and the station would not stand behind any of their employees action! That was when I desided to learn how to fix my own vehicles etc.

I think you should put this situation you are having on that web site I told you about. If you couldn't figure out that first word, my email address is: wb6bbz@juno.com

I'd start the thread about the "Class Action Law Suite" but I've tried several times to start a thread without any luck and when I ask Rob how to do it his reply was "What Forum are you on!" So I just search for Threads that others have started on the subject and add my information.

Anyway Phrede, did you like the song, I couldn't remember what color the Phrog was and Peter, Paul and Mary were one of my favorite Folk groups.:rocker:

Sorry Phrede, I can't help with how to remove the plastic as I just received the foam seat bottoms recently and haven't had a chance to replace them yet. From your pictures it looks like an easy matter to seperate the plastic from the foam with a razor blade and a little gentle pulling.

I don't know because I haven't tried it. In my case it would not help because the old film is not usable due to the damage. I do think it would be difficult to separate the harder film from the very soft foam and removing the glue from the film. I may try it just to see if it works.

Good News! The big brown truck brought me a new cushion today and it is correct! I spoke to the dealer and they do not know if the problem is fixed or if it just this one seat. I hope for any others ordering it the system is solved.

Now to get the seat back together and installed......

:partyDo you think someone at GM read my post about that Consumer web site?

Glade you finally got the cushin for your buns:patriot:
