Has anyone had the message service stabilitrak on their dash display? Is this a dealer issue or can I attempt the repair? Thanks Tom

The first step is to have a Tech2 and scan it... you'll probably need the Tech2 to actually start fixing it as well so you can see whats going on. Without it, you're just guessing.

Welcome to my world. If you're needing to replace the EBCM, you can find them on ebay. or have yours rebuilt. Course, could be a myriad of other problems as well, down to a sensor wire come loose

You really need access to a TECH II tool to narrow the problem down. Otherwise you MAY be throwing money down a long dark hole

Steering wheel position sensor. Puts you in safe mode. No power. They say the connection can be loose because of operation power tilt. No true in my opinion. It doesn't move any. I did my own. Best to take drivers seat out. It's not that hard to do. Get GM parts. Ebay has some. Dealership want 156.00 for the part. Same part number for 06 corvette.

You can fix this yourself, I fixed mine. There used to be some good picture of the fix on the corvette site.

2004 - 2008: Service Bulletin: Stabilitrak/Active Handling Light On, Service Stabilitrak/Active Handling Message on DIC
Subject: Stabilitrak/Active Handling Light On, Service Stabilitrak/Active Handling Message on DIC, DTC C0710
Steering Wheel Position Sensor (SWPS) Signal Set (Install Clip in SWPS Connector) #06-02-35-002B - (10/19/2007)
Models:
2004-2008 Cadillac XLR
2005-2008 Chevrolet Corvette
with Steering Wheel - Tilt, Telescoping (RPO N37 or N38)
Condition
Some customers may comment on a Stabilitrak® or Active Handling System light being illuminated. Also, this warning light will be accompanied by a SERVICE STABILITRAK or SERVICE ACTIVE HNDLG message on the DIC.
Diagnosis with a scan tool may reveal a DTC C0710.
Cause
The most likely cause of a DTC C0710 on a vehicle equipped with telescoping/tilt steering wheel is high resistance in SWPS connector C202. Fretting terminal corrosion may be present in the SWPS connector due to the telescoping motion of the steering column. When the steering column is telescoped in and out, the female terminals within the SWPS connector may move on the male terminals of the SWPS. This movement between the terminals may cause a high resistance condition in the SWPS connector.
Correction
Remove the driver's side closeout (insulator) panel.
Locate the SWPS connector that connects to the steering angle sensor, located on the lower center of the steering column.
Install the clip (1), P/N 19179794, into the connector. This clip will act as a terminal positive assurance (TPA) and prevent any movement of the terminals.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.

I have that pop up from time to time. The dealer wanted $600 to replace some sensor near the steering column. I noticed that it pops up only if I drive the car hard from a dead stop. So I don't do that anymore. I've had the car a year, put about 3,000 miles on it and maybe have seen it 5 or 6 times. I also notice that sometimes it just resolves itself while driving and turns off and I see a message like "stabilitrak OK". If it doesn't go away I turn the car off and restart and that fixes it as well. My personal opinion on something like that is that if not happening all the time, why go down that rabbit hole? It might make new issues with a car that can be finicky at times. Good luck.

Again you can fix this yourself. You'll need GM part number 19179794. There are some for sale on eBay anywhere from $3 to $9. The electrical connection at this point becomes loose because the steering wheel moves up and away and towards the driver every time you get in and out. I did this fix and the problem never showed up again. When you install the comb you'll notice immediately that the connection is more secure.

as box 3252 said there was a recall and it is a simple repair . if it has not been done to your car the connector repair will repair the problem 90% of the time.
