So the V started doing a neat trick: if you opened either door, the trunk would also open. Obviously aggravating because you had to be sure you had trunk clearance & nothing on it when you opened any door. Not to mention looking stupid. :silly: I know someone had that happen after switching to LED lights in the interior, but we hadn't done that. Plus, when you shut the trunk it made an extra unhappy noise when done. So I go through the process of thinking, great, now we get to visit the dealer to solve a fun electrical mystery.

Mike got in & checked the interior trunk open button & found it was cockeyed, staying pushed in on one side. Popped it back even, problem solved! Now why that would cause the trunk to open when you open a door is a whole other question.

So, if your car starts demonstrating a new feature of open door = open trunk, check the buttons that open & close it. If they're pushed in wrong, you might have a cheap, easy 30 second fix. :blinzel:

Actually, there's a simple explanation for that. With ignition off and doors closed, after 15-20 minutes the car powers off everything except the door lock receiver. When you opened the door, power is restored and the button is seen as pushed.

Had a related one-time ugly with an SLK. Unlike most cars, the SLK's garage door opener is powered off with ignition. I came home one day, opened the garage door on the way in, and did not notice that the button stuck down. Next morning I opened the garage door with its wall button, checked the driveway for a paper or anything, then got in the car, started it, and immediately started to back out of the garage. I nearly backed into the closing door.

OUCH on the garage door opener! Your explanation of our XLR's new trick makes perfect sense to me. Fortunately the button to close the trunk still overrode the stuck "open me" button.
