I just completed the installation of a CAI system on my '04 XLR using Spectre items. Below is the list of parts needed, all parts are 4" in diameter.
Spectre part number's:
intake "Y" #9778
45 degree bend, 2 needed #9749
aluminum collar, 2 needed #9706
black coupler #9771
Air filter- Spectre makes a few colors I have #8136 Blue, 2 needed
I purchased these items through Jeg's. Air filter's were purchased at my local Pep Boys, $8 each cheaper than Jeg's. Total investment about $167.
The second photo is a pic of the cutting required to the plastic upper radiator cover to make enough clearance to close the hood without rubbing. The little red filter to the upper right is a little air filter that I had left over from one of my Harley's. It works great as an air filter for the PCV line you will need to unplug when you install this setup. The system looks great and the sound that screams from the 4.6 under full throttle is awesome! Any questions, feel free to ask.

Looks GREAT...nice job, this is something that was next on my "to do" list. Thanks for write up and parts list. Did need to have the ECU/PCM reflashed?

Welcome, where about in Los Angeles? I'm up in the SFV. Nice looking intake job you did also.

no reflash necessary as I didn't change the MAF housing. Still flowing the same rate through the MAF. Just a much better sound :)

Hi. I work in Northridge and I live in Burbank. You're on the vette forum also, right?

Yeah, same handle on most of the forums I'm on. We should try and get together some time. I guess you are over there (CorvetteForum) too. Do you have a Corvette also?

I sold my '04 Z06 the same day I bought the XLR. Don't have parking to keep both of them.

Totally different animals, that's for sure. You can feel some of the common DNA but they are so different. Both nice cars though.

oh yah, definitely different. But, in the caddy I don't get followed by the CHP everytime I get on the freeway.

DIY intake system

Here's a intake system that I put together using all 3" spectre intake pieces. Consist of a 3" Y, two 3" 45 degree angles, and a reducer. The blue elbow is a reducer to go from 3" to 3 3/4. The filters are 8 1/2 long which fit perfectly. All for under seventy bucks. <a href="http://s1246.photobucket.com/user/topila/media/0A63D798-EFA3-4CB7-83DD-5DF2D13ABAAF.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1246.photobucket.com/albums/gg620/topila/0A63D798-EFA3-4CB7-83DD-5DF2D13ABAAF.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 0A63D798-EFA3-4CB7-83DD-5DF2D13ABAAF.jpg"/></a><a href="http://s1246.photobucket.com/user/topila/media/3A3CDE1F-5E1D-4105-8C9C-716FAAD319B5.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1246.photobucket.com/albums/gg620/topila/3A3CDE1F-5E1D-4105-8C9C-716FAAD319B5.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 3A3CDE1F-5E1D-4105-8C9C-716FAAD319B5.jpg"/></a>
I took some measurements and wasn't comfortable with the 4" system. With the three inch I barely had to relief the radiator support, all the angles matched up perfect. When I closed the hood I went underneath the car with a retractable mechanics mirror and checked the clearance which was 1/4". The spot directly above the radiator to the hood is the tightest spot. I also tapped a 1/4" barb fitting in the bottom of the Y piece to accept the vent tube coming from the valve cover.
I don't know if you can notice in the picture but I also wrapped the radiator top support with a carbon fiber wrap. It turned out really well and conforms to all the bends.

I haven't had the chance to drive the car because of the weather but ready for the spring time!!!
