Trunk issue

My 04 XLR trunk won't open at all unless I operate the top. Just had top hydraulics rebuild all 7 cylinders and the shop I purchased car from installed them. Now trunk won't open and when top is operated the trunk won't close to end cycle. I have to wait a few minutes and manually close trunk. Trunk won't open with fob, bumper key, trunk release inside car nor trunk press pad. Is this a sensor issue? Top operates go the point where trunk should close but trunk doesn't close. Seems like it does not recognize that the rear glass section has reached its final position. Same happens when I raise or lower top, trunk won't close. I get Dash massage Top not Secure.

Thanks

Without being there and monitoring it with a Tech 2, I can't be 100% certain, but this sounds an awful lot like a sensor-related issue.

Whenever a problem appears after performing any kind of maintenance, it's always a good idea to determine if the work caused an issue.

In this case, with seven re-built cylinders, the mechanisms they operate may Be affected by a slightly different stroke length, which can change a sensor count just enough to halt the cycle. It doesn't take much either.

Mechanical binding in a linkage could be another possibility. I assume the shop tested the operation of the top and opened the rear deck lid multiple times before calling you to pick it up? If everything worked before you dropped it off, I'd want the shop make or pay for the repair. It may be something as quick and simple as having a top re-learn done. This takes less than ten minutes.

You may need to have a dealership get involved if your shop isn't equipped with the expertise or equipment (like a Tech 2 or MDI scan tool) to restore the system to proper operation. I'd have the repair shop deal with it.

I think you are correct. Since the cylinders were leaking and now that they are repaired the stroke length may have changed and thrown off the count. I don't have a tech 2 and the shop is 200 miles away. May just try a local shop near me and have a relearn performed. Thanks just wanted another opinion.
