I was in Sam's Club the other day and decided to check on availability and price of replacement tires for my 2005 XLR. I only have about 13k miles, so I don't expect to have to replace them anytime soon, but was curious.

The factory installed tires on my car are Michelin Pilot MXM4 ZP P235/50ZR18 97W. Sam's Club quoted me $278.54 each, or $1201.65 installed complete for a set of four.

Just passing this info on for anyone that may be about ready to replace tires. :burnout:

Thanks for the heads up in price. I'm not ready now either but it's good to know how much for a set.

My 2004 doesn't have the ZP run flat version of this tire. I just purchased my XLR last month and it has a new set of these tires in the non-run flat version.

I've never had a run flat tire on my XLR, Corvette, or any other car that I own or have owned.

What is the difference in how the XLR rides, handles, and road noise between the ZP and Non-ZP versions?

I know the sidewalls are stiffer on the ZP's than a non-ZP tires and I would think because of this the car would corner better.

I've read a lot of messages on Corvette Forum about people taking their run flat tires off of their new Vettes and replacing them with non-run flats because of the weight difference. According to Tire Rack there's only a 1 pound difference between the two types with the ZP's weighting the extra pound.

I believe the reason that people trade out the run flats is because of ride comfort. Running run flats is hard like running solid tires. Yes the sidewalls are very thick so your able to drive on them when deflated. I don't know about a pound difference I would think it would be more. Yes rotating mass does make a difference. A regular tire has give or squish when you hit a bump where as a runflat doesn't. Alot of people on the forum have switched over you just have to be alittle more prepared with some fix a flat and a plug kit so your never stranded

Looks like I'm going to stay with the no-run flats that I have now. I do have a tire plug kit, a can of flat fix and a 12V air compressor just in case the worst happens.

Thanks for the reply.
