Help! Tires

Has anyone replaced their RFT tires with the new bridgestone drive guard tires?

Was it necessary to change the rims?

Special rim shape is not required. They are available in the stock size for a base, but not for a V. I wouldn't expect great things out of an all-season tire.

Not just to make noise... and I'm not exactly sure what "great things" constitute... but I'm quite pleased with my Michelin A/S 3's. I'm more a rider than a racer, but they've performed well at a wide range of speeds. I will concede that they are firmer than my old Pirellis and ride smoother on well-paved roads/highways.

If you're pleased with the performance of an A/S tire than go for it. I much prefer the additional performance of summer tires. It's all about the balance YOU are looking for. I don't drive my XLR in the cold or snow to be even a little concerned about "all" season, so I swing the balance more towards ride and performance. I don't buy into the theory that you need to be a racer to appreciate improved performance.

I run your exact setup (same tires; same size), and completely agree w/ your assessment. All I would add is to mention how great these tires are in the mountains. The car turns like it's on rails. I'm completely happy with this setup.

I have concluded that after reading all of the past posts that I am going to just get the original tires when mine are worn out, Michelin ZP HXMXM4 and be done with it. I just can,t see myself out there pushing a plug in and running a small compressor from the trunk to air it up. I had one of those compressors years ago and threw it in the trash after one use. But this is just my experience and opinion, not an argument on the subject.

I just installed a set of the a/s 3's replacing a set of MXM4's. The right rear was out of thread, the left rear had some left but not much, and the left front had a seperated radial. Both front tires had a lot of tread left but the rears were shot after 20,000 miles.

I have about 500 miles on the a/3's and they are just broken in. The are more quiet that the MxM4 and have a nicer ride.

I drive the car all year round when it isn't raining but do get caught in the rain. The MXM4 tire hydroplaned a lot. A real crap tire on our freeways in water. Sort of like skate boarding on ice. No cntrol at all at 60 mph or higher. Sure makes your pooper pucker up!

There's more cool to cold weather here in the Great Northwest than there is summer temps so all year driving requires an all season tire. I've driven my other plastic car that has summer preformance tires on it a couple of times in the winter with dry roads and the sun shinning (a twice a year happening ;)) and there isn't any grip due to the cold temp.
