2004 Cadillac XLR Rebuild - Part 5
Here's an update!... 10 months later...
This isn't going to be a full in depth update, as I intend to do that later this week, but I got the itch to hop on here tonight and noticed there still seemed to be some interest in my rebuild. So before I get started...
If it was a 2008, it was definitely a DTS. I understand it's the hearse version but the front end is completely the same as the base. I own a DTS as well and while rebuilding my XLR I decided to compare the two lights for fun. I had read a post a few months back about the same topic and figured...
Second Mr. Clean eraser, works wonders. I typically use a cleaner with it, but try it without first. You don't want to get too aggressive with these interiors.
I haven't personally attempted this, but here is a thread started by a guy that has:

If this is something you would like to do, I would read through that thread in its entirety, there's a lot...
If it were me, I'd either live with it or have an aftermarket unit installed. For the $1,500 you'd have to spend to have the current unit rebuilt, you can have a much better head unit with updated navigation, Bluetooth and a number of other features and still have a few hundred extra bucks in...

Not to add any confusion to the whole GM/X and GM/S issue, but I actually had a different experience trying to get the older GM/X to work on my car. I originally had one fob that was GM/S(Newer version) on my 2004 and purchased a used GM/X in the correct part number. Everything matched, but I...
Wanted to give everyone a quick update. Thanks again for all of your recommendations and advice! I ended up replacing the 2 cam covers, both valve seals and the four actuators(2 on each side). After doing so I steam cleaned the front of the engine and removed all of that nasty oil build up. Its...
Figured out the problem!
Thank you for responding Rexster and I apologize for not responding sooner. I figured out what caused the fob to not work. It was the correct number, but was a GM/X instead of GM/S. Apparently GM altered something in the keyless system at some point and quite a few cars...
2004 Cadillac XLR Rebuild - Part 4
Hey Everyone,
Its been a little more than a month since I've updated this thread so I thought I would hop on and let you know where I'm at with the XLR Rebuild. The delay in my posting was primarily caused by waiting on parts, and of course the more I dug...
I know this topic has been beat to death, but after searching the forum and google I haven't found out the answer to my particular problem. When I purchased my 2004 XLR it came with only one fob, the # 2. After around a month of searching I finally found a used one on ebay with the correct GM #...
Appreciate all of the feedback everyone! I think I'm on the right track... I've ordered that GM RTV sealant, should be in on Tuesday. I'll also be ordering new cam covers, haha they do exist! Apparently they already come with those magnets pre-attached. Here are the part numbers for both sides...
Haha, I've been watching ebay just in case, so far no luck. I'll keep an eye on Craigslist New Jersey and see if anything comes up. I would imagine that if they did steal the parts they either off loaded them already, or they're going to hold onto them for a while. Especially with 2 different...
Yeah I hired the carrier myself via a dispatching company(DIY Transport). DIY more or less puts out a bid to numerous carriers and those carriers decide if they want it or not. That's how I got hooked up with these guys from PA. DIY has actually been very helpful with everything, unfortunately...
Thank you both for pointing me in the right direction. I'm trying to locate part numbers for the gaskets and came upon an old thread you were involved in Cubby, haha. That led me to gmpartsdirect.com where I was able to get this screen capture. Using the diagram would either of you mind pointing...
