Don't know if this has on here. Car has ran flawless for years. All of a sudden check engine light has been coming on. When this happens, the car goes into "limp mode". The throttle body has been changed, no effect. When this happens, I connect my scanner, clear the codes, and it fires right up and runs perfect..for a while then it does it again. Its almost impossible to drive in limp mode. Mechanic seems to think it could be in the wiring. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Well clearing codes is just like unplugging a computer. It does not fix anything. its just a start over. For it to go in limp mode it should set a hard code. That may take a better scanner than you have to read it in the system. If using a generic code reader what is the code thats coming up.

If the code has to do with engine timing then id check the vvt accuators on the end of the cylinder head to look and see if you hsve oil coming out of the wiring hole.
