2004 XLR - Crimson Pearl - currently 29,000 miles
Hello - Bought a 2004 crimson red XLR 6 weeks ago. 14,000 miles. Love it. Favorite car ever. Looking forward to all the information I'm sure I will receive here.

tires/ maybe need to bump up wheel size ?

I have to get new tires and would like to bump up the size a bit to fill out the fender wells just a touch more. What would you guys recommend for new - run flat tire size - and possible wheel size for my bump up?? I don't want to make a total hot rod out of it just want a little more beef to the look. I know the 20" wheel is popular but a bit much for my taste.... Currently has 235-50-18 and maybe 245-50-18 would do the job - not sure ??

Sorry, I can't answer to the tire question, check the other threads pertaining to tires etc.

I just wanted to say welcome! :blinzel: Wow, only 14,000 miles: that was quite a find. I know you will enjoy it and will find lots of answers and many like minded new friends here on this forum!

Lots here run larger wheels, I just lowered my suspension on stock bolts. That works really well also.
Congrats on your new car. Lots of great experience here to learn from.

A whole host of wheel options are available. Just look for C6 front wheels with the +56 offset (or Z06 if you think you may someday upgrade the brakes). My street wheels are the chrome OEM Z06 18x8.5 front wheels. My race wheels are 18x9.5 replicas.

You can squeeze 255/45ZR18 on the stock wheels. I wouldn't go any bigger.

It should be noted that the stock offset is +62. Changing to a +56 offset shifts the tire/wheel to the outside of the vehicle 6mm or a little less than 1/4". If a wider tire or wheel is used add 1/2 this additional width to any offset change to see where the outside of the tire will end up. Some like the look of rubber outside the fender, others do not.

There is also the speedometer error issue when changing tire sizes. A 235/50-18, 255/45-18 and 255/40-19 all hold the speedo error to less than 1%

I personally run Bridgestone Potenza S04, 255/40-19 on all 4 corners on stock wheels. I like being able to do a 4 corner rotation.

Thanks for all the information- nice to consider more options from those that have been there - done that --

Thanks for the welcome. Did lowering the suspension change tire clearance or make a rough ride ??
