I finally completed the installation of my aftermarket TouchScreen. Re-used the OEM trim panel in the center of the Dash. I haven't found any problems with the operation of the car yet. I admit I haven't tried EVERYTHING but I've operated most of the main functions of the car and most of the electronic accessories. So far, so good.

I want to thank Fireduck69 from this forum & "Hal-in-Prescott" from XLRForum.com for their help with my installation.

I created a Word '97 document detailing some of the things I learned while installing my unit. If anyone is interested send a PM and I'll forward a copy. Maybe it will help, maybe not.

Great looking job. I am most interested in the identity of the products you used. Please send the word doc to tom8coss@gmail.com. I just went thru a radio change and all the replacement radios were smaller than the opening in the factory panel, needing some kind of filler panels on either side of the touchscreen. Thanks for any info.

Check this out. Can be a reality if we can get enough people interested.

  • Massive 14.3" touchscreen – Unmatched among Cadillac cars — only the Escalade and hyper-exclusive Celestiq SUVs outsize this unit
  • Android 13 OS with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay
  • Full HVAC control directly on screen and with manual side trim quick access buttons
  • 3 camera support (rear, front curb, dash w/loop recording)
  • Bose + aftermarket audio ready (5v preamp, 5 channels)
  • DTS DSP audio – precision tune every speaker
  • OEM fitment – ABS injection molded, CAD-engineered, structurally certified
This isn’t a gimmick. It’s a factory-level command center built for the rare Cadillac XLR.

Just heard the Max Din for the XLR is going into production. Check out the latest video. 80 units for initial production were ordered and those 80 aren't fully sold, so you can still be the FIRST to have this, in an XLR! Head over to www.knightdrivetv.com and grab your EXCLUSIVE and NEWLY RELEASED Cadillac XLR Max-Din!!

Very nice. Should look fine w/ the tan interior.

Hey RubyRod
Thanks for the post..and the picture. I am heading for my second try. The first shop said it couldn't be done and installed that stupid flat black Metra panel which ruined the aesthetic appearance of the interior. I have a new unit and the Metra spacer kit, and I think I may have found the local shop that is a little smarter. Please send me the Word doc you created. Crutchfield seems to think they have all the install tricks figured out but it can't hurt to have backup from one who walked the walk. I am being super careful THIS time around. Thanks again.

I also had a conversation with a car audio shop regarding install kits for the XLR before attempting my install. They claimed it was IMPOSSIBLE to install an aftermarket system into the XLR. They recommended a shop that does "full custom" installations for $$$$$. I wasn't interested in a custom install. I was fairly confident that the Metra Kit would work I just didn't like the flat black Metra Trim Panel. I wanted to re-use the OEM Trim Panel. So mine is a DIY semi-custom install. But it works for me. Crutchfield seems like the best starting point for any DIY install.

Good Luck
