Welcome to the Cadillac XLR Forums!

front and rear shocks.

My understanding is that the 2008-2009 part numbers will work, and those shocks are still avaialble from the GM Parts network... the older part numbers have been discontinued - the parts counter guys will say it won't work, but the feedback from the owners commnuity is that they work fine. So YMMV

The other shocks that are plug and play compatible are all basically chinese made shocks that are not actually mag-ride, but have the simulators built inside the shock - so visually they look like OE mag ride shocks and will not generate computer issues, but functionally they do not offer mag ride (and are a bit soft in IMO) - but they do "work" as a cheap replacement.

Correct. You can buy the 08 0r 09 numbers from rock auto. I think the 04-08 fronts are still available.as they are all the same.
The china shocks are just a shock and if yours is worn out it will make the car ride better until they dont. The one size fits all XLR and corvettes when in fact there are many different compression rates amoung the cars does give a softer ride than a good quality shock and e tetnal simulators. They are very cheap so maybe buying them and replaceing every year might be doable if you are not paying someone. I think i have a very low milage zet of oem i may be se!ling.
Your options are 300 for china fake nonmag with built in sims
600-700 for quality z06 upgrades and sims or bilsteins b6 and sims
Of oem 1800-2000
If paying to have them swapped labor will be the same on all.

I have heard at least half a dozen reports of one out out the four china were badbut was replaced
Still labor involved so only buy them from a usa shipper
