My XLR/V(s)
Black 2005 XLR
:(
I just bought a 2005 XLR and it came with only one remote. I have read that there is a #1 remote and a #2 remote? My remote does not have any markings on it to tell me what number remote I have? Nothing stamped on the back like the ones I have seen on the internet. I want to order another remote but do not know what remote to order? Anyone have any suggestions on how to find out what remote I have now? Thanks

It really doesn't make any difference about the numbers on the back of the remote. It's what position the fob has in the car's memory settings (unless you have access to a TECHII). More than likely the first two positions are the original fobs. Only a locksmith or dealer can add an additional remote. When you get the new remote, just set the seat, mirrors and steering wheel to either memory button on the driver's seat.

programing a new remote

I have read that the owner can program new remotes to the XLR? I just want to get a second remote and program it to my XLR? So are you saying that if I get a new remote that I would have to take it to the dealer to have it programmed to my car? Thanks for the reply.

There are different models for different years. The best bet would be to go to a Cadillac dealer and have him look up using your vin what model number you need.

The 2004 remotes are hard to find. I'm not sure when they changed them though. Hopefully that's not the one you need.

I may have given you bad info.
Here's a quote from the owner's manual for my 06.

"Matching Transmitter(s) to Your VehicleEach keyless access transmitter is coded to prevent
another transmitter from working with your vehicle. If a
transmitter is lost or stolen, a replacement can be
purchased through your dealer. Remember to bring any
remaining transmitters with you when you go to your
dealer. Once your dealer has coded the new transmitter,
the lost transmitter will not work with your vehicle.
Each vehicle can have a maximum of four transmitters
matched to it.
To match a new transmitter to your vehicle when you
have a recognized transmitter, do the following:
1. The vehicle must be off.
2. Have the recognized and new, unrecognized
transmitters on your person.
3. Go to the rear of the vehicle and insert the vehicle
key into the key cylinder located on the lower rear
fascia on the driver’s side of the vehicle. See Trunk
on page 2-12 for more information on the key
cylinder.
4. Open the trunk.
5. Turn the key five times within five seconds.
6. The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display
READY FOR FOB #X. X can be 2, 3 or 4.
7. Place the new, unrecognized transmitter in the
glove box transmitter pocket with the buttons
facing to the right.
8. Once the transmitter is programmed, a beep will
sound. The DIC will display READY FOR #X,
where X can be 3 or 4, or MAX # FOBS LEARNED.
9. Press the ACC button."
