My 2006 XLR needs a new power steering rack and pinion and new shock absorbers. I have searched the forum for posts are in regards to this but couldn't find any that have the information that I need. I know that some owners have switched over to Bilstein shocks with simulators. The information I need is for the correct GM part number for the power steering rack and the exact part numbers for the Bilstein shocks and simulators. At the moment my car a significant leak coming from the power steering rack and a front end ride height issue that can be fixed by installing new front shocks, so says the tech at my local GM dealership. Any help and insight would be greatly appreciated.

You can get oem front shocks

Shocks are not going to change your ride height. If yourS are totally failed and you installl new mag shocks it might raise the car 1/8 th inch. Shocks do not hold the car up. You either have a broken front leaf spring or the pads are gone on the ride heigth adjusters on the end of the spring. You dont mix mag and none mag shocks. As stated front mag shocks are still available.
steering racks are about 50/50 getting one that is any good. Depending on where it is leaking it might be rebuildable. Trouble is when you swap out you may get one tgat was leaking out of the wiring hole and those rarely can be fixed. Also many fail due to the assist going bad. Those cannot be repaired also most shops dont know how to cgeck them so you coukd get one tga assist does not work. Dont let the dealer trick you into you furnishing it. They will be charging you every time they pull it out to try another one.

Thank you both for your responses, the dealer said it would be up to me to source all the parts needed. That would be a power steering rack, all new hoses 2 front shocks. I was going to have them take care of a small oil pan leak at the same time. The total cost for labor only is $4800.00 - $5000.00.

Just send me 2000$ and ill tell you the leak is fixed. you are threatening wing money away. If you cannot live with it sell the car. It involves completely removing the lower x member and suspension. The leak is above the oil pan in the lower engine girdle..when you remove the pan you are only removing half the leak. 90% of shops will not fix the leak and will most likely break or damage a few parts you cannot get. If it aint broke dont break it. The proper sealant requires operating room clean and no oil in the engine. That takes about two weeks to let it all drip out so you have time to clean and install the sealer which is applied, then allowed to dry an hour before putting the two parts together. One drop of oil on the sealant and its ruined. Really takes engine out and tuned upside down to be able to repair. Shocks are no problem but you may pay a fortune with the rack.

I am personally well aware of what it takes to fix the oil pan gasket. I also I need to know which is the correct "ride height" adjuster to get from Rock Auto. The only difference I can see is that has this description SKP #SKRHSO21 "Left with RPO Code F55 (continuinosly variable real time magneto dampening). Here is the link for Rock Auto. I just want to make sure I get the correct one.

So you did the pan one time . what did you use to seal it. Is it leaking somewhere else now. All the xlrs take the same ride sensor per corner ive got plenty if you want one. I throw them away when i do the mag shock delete. Cleans up the underside and is not needed. shoot me an email with address and which one and ill send it to you. The manual says when you replace a new one you will need to do a ride height reset with a scanner

You can get shocks @ rockauto.com

unless you are getting a code saying a ride height sensor is bad they have nothing to do with raising the car. As i said before you most likely need ride height adjusters. You can get them on amazon. Just search corvette ride height adjusters. Dont get the single thickness rubber designed to lower the car. Get the double thick factory style. Plus check the center of the front spring . if the fender lip is even with the tire looking from the side you could have a broken spring.

Time to really decide to bail on the car. After my fiasco with the Houston dealer, and no fixes but plenty of excuses, I put up with refilling the p/s reservoir every 3 days for over 2 years because I loved the car. When I was offered the amount of money I was comfotable with, I bailed. And haven't looked back. It's like when people sell their boat. Had great times, but loved it leaving the driveway just as much

I agree, I am wrestling with idea, maybe it's time to cut my losses. I was considering to offer it up here on the forum as a parts car. The car has 94k on the odometer,, and is is good condition.
