Hello everyone! I live in northern Va and am having problems with my 2007 XLR.

Is there any owners in the DC area that can help tell me where to find a certified XLR technician? Willing to travel to Va, DC, and MD. The techs down here don't seem to have a real clue. I'm just learning about my car and don't want to run around getting ripped off by a sub standard mechanic.
I've already learned a ton on these forums Thanks to you all!

Ps. My problem is my top wont go down. I also can't locate the hydraulic reservoir. I've looked in the trunk where it says but like I said, I'm learning.

Thank you.

Rachel,

The Folding Top reservoir is located under the carpet in the left/rear corner of the trunk. Pull the carpet back, and you'll see a small cover that lifts off. Beneath it is the hydraulic pump, manifold, (with 16 hydraulic lines attached) and the reservoir. The Folding Top Control module is the closest module to the pump.

Behind it is the Suspension Control module.

Beneath the pump is the opening for the drain. If there's a tube attached, you can see it under the car, behind the left/rear tire. Make sure the drain is clear, or the compartment can fill with water runoff and destroy the modules in there, resulting in a very expensive (and preventable) repair bill.

Have you contacted Lindsey Cadillac in Alexandria?

Thank you for the detailed explanation about the pump. I'll take this outside n look. The book offers no help on this.

I have not contacted Lindsey Cadillac in Alexandria. I'll do that today. I was gonna make a list of all dealers n ask around.

Thank you

I have used Lindsey Cadillac for years. I would recommend going to them. My service writer is Donna Wozniak 703-998-6600. She has taken care of our Devilles and DTS's as well as my daughters SRX. She is absolutely the best!!!

Ok. I looked at my hydraulics. It was full over max. We release the pressure valve and tried doing it manually. Then it was even harder to move the top. We eventually just put the top back up. After that, I looked @ the resevoir again. Somehow n somewhere a leak sprung. I think. Suddenly the fluid was between max n min. There was also a small pool of fluid in the bottom of the car and under the car. I guess I HAVE to take it to a tech before I screw it up.

Anyone from DC area?

I would definitely recommend Lindsey Cadillac in Alexandra. Can't remember the name of the XLR certified tech now, but I did speak with him on the phone several times when I had problems with my XLR.

Thank you.
Ok so Alexandria was a little far for me. I went to Moore Caddy in Chantilly. They verified they had a XLR Cert Tech there. Cost me $352 to have it diagnosed (sensors were off and needed reprogramming) and the sensors were then relearned. It worked but is this a normal price just to relearn the sensors?

Thanks all!!

one more thing.....

my car is still making a thumping sound when i turn sharply (backing out of a driveway)
ive replaced the rear differential oil once and got new nuts. Still making that sound. Someone on here somewhere in my search said to do it 2x and turn sharply about 10 times and it should be fine.
Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Thanks!!

Hi: I just had the fluid replaced in one of my Corvettes last week. First, You have to make sure that you put in the right stuff with all the correct additives. My understanding is the new GM fluid now comes with all the additives contained so their is no need to use the little bottles of additive any more. Second, after you change, you need to do about 10 hard donuts left...then 10 hard right in a parking lot to work the fluid and additives into the diff so that the new fluid and additives work into all areas of the diff. The noises then should go away.

Rachel,

I'm glad to hear you got your folding top fixed, but $352 seems a litle steep for what should be a quick and simple operation. I just performed a re-learn of my top last weekend, and it took less than fifteen minutes. I had the same issue; a sensor out of tolerance. I would re-check the service invoice to determine if that was a straight labor charge for the folding top diagnosis/adjustment, and if so, speak to the Service Manager. Ask him what the standard labor estimate is for a top re-learn. It shouldn't be very long.

For a re-learn, basically, the status of the folding top is checked using a diagnostic tool and will display the sensor values that are expected, (stored in memory from the last re-learn) and what they are actually reading. By comparing them, and knowing where in the opening/closing cycle the prolem is occuring, it's pretty easy to diagnose what's wrong. It the actual sensor value is changing, (at rest) or is out of the expected band, a re-learn will usually fix the problem right away, though repeated problems may indicate a sensor going bad and drifting over time.
