Yes, you should be able to see from under, as long as they haven’t been wiped down. On mine, I noticed a lot more sway than typical loss of dampening. You won’t get any DIC messages unless you disconnect the control wiring at the top of the shock. The body control module is looking for a level of resistance. If it doesn’t see the circuit properly, it assumes there is an issue with the suspension and sends messages to the DIC. There are many issues that don’t show up on the DIC, but generate diagnostic codes that can only be read with a OBD II reader. Many articles on this site about Diagnostic Codes on this site. Doing a search for the issues on this site will give you much needed information.
