Missing trunk touch pad?

Caught up with a local owner who is trying to figure out what parts are missing. If I go look at my trunk touch pad, it is a rubber rectangle with a rubber oval inside it. The other owner has the rubber rectangle but the oval is missing & you can see a circuit board up inside.

The question is whether just the rubber touch pad is missing or the switch behind it. Anyone out there happen to have taken one of these apart? I'm not willing to let mine be the guinea pig . . .

I'm guessing the replacement switch is just that, the entire switch assembly... touch pad and circuit board piece. Tomorrow I'll check the part number for the switch and post back.

Had same situation a year ago - center contact pad just came out in my hand one day when opening. The replacement unit on my 2008 was Exterior Rear Compartment Lid Release Switch part number 20785843 - $20.86 plus tax. Not hard to change, just takes a little time to take out trunk liner to get at wiring harness clip and to take off backup light/license plate cover to get at switch screws. Be careful when taking out trunk liner not to damage the trunk closing button - repositioning it was the trickiest part of the whole job. On a 1 to 5 with 5 being a don't even think about doing it yourself, this is a 1.1 Good luck

Correct... and it's the same switch 04-09, I show list is now $21.26.

Easy until......

Replaced my trunk touch pad today and it was going fine until the screw head holding the pad on snapped off!!! Said quite a few choice words then decided my next move.....I went to my local box store and purchased stainless steel replacement screws. They worked and I put everything back together and everything was working as it should.

You can never have enough tools!!

The trunk close button (line up) was the trickiest part for me also.
