Bunch of us have replaced the OEM unit with other units, Panasonic and Kenwood, not sure about the other brands.
I did a Kenwood install back in summer of 2016 and don't regret it one bit. There was no love lost between me and the stock unit. No appreciable update to the maps, weather station never worked, and being disc driven, extremely slow in the navigation area.
