Hola Gang,

I want to replace the steering wheel on my '05 Blue Steel beauty as the wood has a crack and the leather has some wear. Found a brand new one for $250 from GM direct!

I know on several other GM there are small holes in the collar to release the spring clips holding the air bag on. I don't see such holes on the XLR.

Any ideas on the best tool to release the 3 spring clips?

Thanks

There are four special tools required to remove the steering wheel, one being the driver air bag removal tool, J-44298. If you don't have the service manuals for reference, I don't believe I would try it. There are several cautions and steps to take before removing the streering wheel. The other tools required are:
J-36541-A steering wheel puller legs
J-1859-A steering wheel puller
J-42640 steering column lock pin
pm me if you'd like the instructions, but as I stated, with the service manuals, that includes pictures of the procedures, you may become lost.
