Where are the lugs to remove a wheel on my 2005? Are they behind that little removeable cap in the center of the wheel??? that would be an awfully small diameter to handle the stress on a wheel. Thank you to whom ever replys; I have to replace the return spring on my gas door.

jacking the car up to get to the gas door spring.

Can I jack the car up on the left side to remove the Left rear wheel? I mean, is there a frame there to take the load, or do I have to jack up the car at the "Jacking Point" Shown in the owner's manual on that side??

IMO,,,, best to use the 'jacking points' shown in the owners manual.. Good luck

You have to be very careful jacking these cars. The front and rear both have fiberglass transverse leaf springs. You don’t want a jack anywhere near these. It a $3,000 re-investment if you bugger them up. Same suspension as C6 Corvette.

Thank you, That's what I thought. but can I just jack at the right rear jack point to repair the gas door latch??, Or do I have to jack at both rear jack points, right and left???

The best way to raise the XLR with a jack is to use "pucks"; they protect the frame from scrapes and ensure the jack is in the right location.

Note: On the frame there are oval-shaped holes at the lift points. The pucks have an oval centering pin that engages the hole and keeps the puck in place while lifting. The C5/C6 corvette has the same arrangement.

Here's one source: Amazon.com: C7 Corvette Jacking Lift Pad/Puck - Billet Aluminum : C7 Stingray, Z51, Z06: Automotive

Prices vary, so it pays to shop around. One puck may be all you need.

For jobs that require more clearance, I use a set of these: Target : Expect More. Pay Less.

They're XLR-friendly too!

The 2005 model does not use lugs. You must remove the rear axle assembly in order to access the gas door spring.

I don't think we are on the same page on this subject. The wheel lugs are what you remove to take the wheel off to change a tire or whatever.

Uh, my 2005 has wheel lugs, behind the remaoveable center cap on the spoked wheel, and then you take the inner fender panel off to get the gas door assy. and spring.

And to buy new tires........ You have to put in a whole new rear end equipped with tires!!! :chuckle

Can you clarify this? It is only necessary to remove the driver's side rear wheel and inner fender to get to the gas release solenoid mechanism (as well as from inside the trunk). The work outside the car is easy, routine stuff. The work inside the trunk is tricky in that it is awkward and will go slowly.

you guys... torturing the newbie...
luckily he got his gas door fixed!! without R/R the entire rear suspension system. lol
we werent all born auto mechanics.
steve, you just keep asking questions.
most of our answers will be helpful.
i also have spent entire days trying to get an unfamiliar part to install perfectly
its part of the fun!
