Hi all...Looking into XPEL light protectors on headlights and fog lights...Been reading that they may cause heat buildup and that negative may outweigh the positive of it's protective quality...Anyone with any thoughts and /or experience..

Headlight lense protection,,,,,

We have the headlight film protection material on both the XLR and Corvette.... XLR - 15K miles ,, Vette - 13K miles, with protection added. No problems at all,,,,lenses look like new. It is a heavy material and you have to follow install instructions......but we are more than satisfied.

Thanks Zen..Having it professionally done at a detailing location ..not confident doing it myself..
Read online some reviews of lenses cracking from heat buildup..others say thats a fallacy..others think its great and no problem
I always come to my fellow XLR fanatics for imput that I value above others..
glad its working well for you on both your babies...
Thanks again for tour thoughts

I've had the XPEL stuff on my headlights for about a year now. No problems and I feel safer driving, not worrying about them getting nicked up. I put it on myself, taking my time and using wife's hair dryer.

I put XPEL on my XLR because of all the chatter about headlamp availability. Had them on a prior vehicle & they still looked like new 5 years later (rest of the front end looked shot gun blasted). Did it ourselves for both vehicles, the key is to let the film warm up in the sun, keep everything (film, fingers, headlight) saturated with the alcohol solution, & keep your headlights on for a couple of weeks while driving to get out any left over bubbles.

I was also concerned about the effect of the heat build up on the DRL's, so recently replaced them with LED's based on instructions here: LED Turn Signals/DRLs

Now as long as someone doesn't run into me I should be ok for a bit ...

The comments by all posters are spot-on. I've applied Xpel headlight protection to three Cadillacs (starting in 2005) and my wife's Chevy, and they all looked brand-new, years later. Xpel is cheap insurance when you find out how much (or available) replacement headlights are these days.

For those who might be sitting on the fence and wondering if professional installation is required, the XLR lights were the easiest of my four applications. As long as the Xpel is sufficiently warm, it goes on easy.

You just have to ensure it's very wet and your hands are very clean. After washing your hands, a thorough wipe-down with IPA is more than sufficient to prevent fingerprints if you accidently touch the adhesive side.

Installation takes a little longer for the first one, but setting an hour aside is plenty of time to do the job.
