2008 Alpine White Edition

Sharp Eyes!

Because I spent a bunch of time studying mine while arguing with my husband about changing it! (he doesn't like oval exhausts - I was ok with them but ended up getting Corsa for sound purposes). Anyway, look at the picture below versus your XLR. Doesn't look like yours has the rolled ends & they're more of a rounded off rectangle than an oval, so makes me think they're not the OEM ones. They look nice though!

I think because we've done a fair amount of "dress-up" mods on ours & keep an eye out for ideas that we tend to notice those kinds of things. Anyway, the changes made to yours all look good on it! :thumbsup

You have got some really sharp eyes there!! I see what you are talking about. My son was already talking to me about putting on an exhaust system for better sound, so maybe this is one upgrade that I can cross off the list! The countdown is on.... I should have it in less than 23 hours....

My XLR finally made it!

The day has finally arrived! At approximately 2:00, I got the call that my XLR was in town. My wife and I hustled right over to pick it up between all of the rain and the forecasted snow. Luckily, I was able to wash the car in the driveway at home before putting it away until spring. I will be spending a lot of time over the winner detailing, etc, but I was glad to finally get home. I am sure I will be having lots of questions, so I do really appreciate all of you already! First thing I did today was to change both batteries in the key fobs, as one was not working. Here are a few pictures after we cleaned it up a bit. I will also post some pictures of the exhaust to see if it is aftermarket or not. I looked under it and did not see a brand, but the openings look different than others I have seen. Maybe just the tips have been changed as the mufflers look like stock to me, but I could be wrong. Take care!

An Erie Question

I just sent you a PM Chip but I don't know if it arrived.

Welcome to the very private and exclusive club of XLR fanatics. I have a Xenon Blue 05 that I dearly love.

Off topic but here goes - I went to college in the mid 60s with a guy from Erie named Dick Schau. He was a great drummer and played with me on several records from that time. I, and others, have wondered what ever happened to him. I last heard that he was in law enforcement in Erie. If you have any info you can provide about Dick I would really appreciate. He dated my little sister and she still talks about him. He would be about 70 by now.

Thanks in advance.

update

I just got your message Chip. Thank you very much. I plan to call Dick tomorrow.

To all of the other people who are part the XLR cult, You have no idea how remarkable this exchange is.

Think about...two people on an internet forum regarding a very rare car meet online. As a result, I will now be able to bring hundreds of people across the nation who knew the individual in question 50 years ago up to date on him.

Facebook maybe.

Email possibly.

But on the XLR net...unbelievable.

Glad to help!

New toy

Congrats Chip,
I purchased a sister to your car back in June. Same color, year etc. I have always owned covertibles and absolutely love my XLR. I personally don't know if any XLRs came with the embroidered seat covers, mine does not have it. I retired from the embroidery industry and we would frequently have car enthusiasts remove there seat covers and have us embroider them. Yours look very nice.
Regards,

Dennis

Thanks Dennis! I like you are very happy. We both have good taste! It has snowed about a foot here since the car arrived, so I cannot wait until spring. I have spent a few hours standing in the garage just looking at it. Counting down the days... :)

Picture of exhaust

My son and I were able to take a picture of the mufflers and tips. Are they stock or aftermarket? Thoughts? Sorry about it not being the best of photos...

They definitely are not stock and they are not Corsa. Could possibly be Magnaflow. I have my stock exhaust in storage. I'll see if I can get some pics this weekend.

Thanks Cubby. I could not find any numbers or markings at all on them.

Congratulations. Really nice : )

I don't see many white ones like yours. They seem to be pretty rare? Maybe some of the other members can weigh in on this.

Welcome!

Charles

Thanks Charles

Thank you for the welcome. I understand that there were 259 Alpine White cars made. I have not seen another in person yet. All of the colors though are sharp in my opinion. I am also partial to Silver as that is the color of my Escalade. My wife's is Mocha Steel....

Thanks ! White Eldorado I bought picking up next month in California. "White is Good" : )

I just added another car to what seems now to be a growing Cadillac Car Collection. I just posted the pictures in Gallery a bit ago. Crazy fun isn't it. ;)

I have to vent. I have owned a Mustang Cobra convertible for about 10 years now. And I have always tried to keep the mileage down trying to keep value of car up. In oct 14 I bought an XLR, I see cars being bought with very low miles..But I decided to screw It ,I am going to drive and enjoy my car the heck with resale...Steve

My hubby & I are classic car nuts & have two sayings:

If you don't drive them, they are just expensive paper weights. (referring to the fact that most old classics have at least one minor leak and you park them over cardboard)

and a more recent saying, after purchasing a few low mile vehicles.....

If you don't drive them, the next guy will love your 'low mile baby' and drive the wheels off of it! (as we have....... and we do!)

We like to think we 'own' these cars, but we are really just caretakers. If a car is well taken care of, (aka, not end up at the recycling/crushing yard) eventually it will become someone else car to enjoy. :blinzel:

I agree!

I am going to drive this car and fully enjoy it! I sold a beautiful 2010 Camaro with 4,000 miles two years ago and realized I should have enjoyed it as opposed to worrying about it. I will not make that same mistake twice!

I agree! Somehow cars just seem "happier" (everything works better) when they are run. Besides, I already know from a couple of others on here XLR's are good for 150-250k+ miles. At the rate of miles I put on mine it will long outlast me! Plus I don't ever intend on selling it (absent something happening that forces me to), so I'm not worried about resale, & I'm not saving it for my kid!
