My XLR/V(s)
2006 infrared xlr
The last couple times that I've looked at this area on my deck lid. I've noticed what looks like dirt on it. It's in the very center (when the top is down it'll be directly back by the center console) I cleaned the area in question. But I think it's a paint defect. Unless you look at it in the sunlight and at a angle you won't notice it. But it is there. Any suggestions or is my guess if "paint defect" the answer. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1353961658.462236.jpg

If it's on the tonneau cover, I have the same problem; it's in the center of the tonneau and looks kind of speckled. On my XLR, I have determined that the black under decklid cover is loose in the center. (I can actually push up on the center of the under lid cover.) When the top is up, the tonneau rubs against this area of the under decklid cover. I put the car away for the winter before I got it taken care of, but I'm thinking the resolution is to take the decklid cover off and either use a good quality trim adhesive and glue it up, or use addtional clips to hold up the center. I haven't taken the cover off to determine if additional clips can be used or not. This will be my first priority when I get it out of storage in the spring.
Until I figured out the cause of the problem, I kept some fine buffing compound in the car. Every time I put the top down, I lightly buffed the area; this seems to take care of the speckled look (at least until the top is put back up, and the tonneau rubbed again.
Hope this helps...

Thanks mtrocket that answers my question. Now that I know what it is. Because I thought it was just a defect in the paint. Didn't dawn on me that it was the roof always rubbing when the top went into the trunk

Post back with your fix. When you remove the clips, take care, they break easily. Take a small flat-blade screwdriver to get the center stem out of the clip. Either that or purchase a trimclip remover at an auto parts store - like O'Reilleys, etc. Harbor Freight also sells them, but only in a kit of six sizes.
New or additional clips are available also at O'Reilleys, etc. The GM part # of the clips is 11519949; I show a GM list price of $1.69ea.

Now that I know what it was from I guess I'll deal with it. Since the only way you see it is if you look at it from a angle and even then you have to really know where it is.
Thanks again

Just found out that one of the clips is missing and the other is broke. That's why my trunk liner is dropping a little. The next time I'm out ill stop at the auto store or caddy dealership and pick up some

Your concern is certainly understood as I too like to make sure my car is in top-notch condition. Please keep us updated on the issue and how the service goes if you take it to the dealer. I hope your week is going well and enjoy the Florida sun.

I went to the dealership after calling the parts department. I talked to bob the parts manager. He told me to bring the car in. So after awhile I did and when I arrived he had the diagram of parts and then went to the drawer and pulled a handful of clips. Then went to my xlr and I had to put the top down to reveal the particular area. He snapped the 2 clips in and said merry Christmas. I said you too and thanks. He game me his card. There was this other one in the service bay. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1354129507.029994.jpgif I could've had more room behind it I would have pulled in behind her so I could have snapped a pic of mine and this xlr. I honk this is the other red. I like my red one ImageUploadedByTapatalk1354129655.559779.jpg

I believe the one in the service bay is the first red - Crimson Pearl - yours is the same red as mine - Infrared. I am partial to the Infrared myself...

Yes I like my color red the best. That's my opinion. The other looks too "bright" But I still drool over all xlrs that I see.

Very happy to hear the dealership resolved the issue with you! Thank you for the update and I hope you have a good weekend! Keep us posted if the issue reoccurs or if you have other questions/concerns.
