Welcome to the Cadillac XLR Forums!

A possible XLR project

Well it looks like the top goes down anyway ! LOL !

salvage xlr

By the time you buy the mess, buy new body parts, get someone to put it back together, you can buy a unwrecked car for the same price. Oh yea, think of the electrical nightmares you could have and if you wanted to sell the car...... imagine the history it will have. There are pages online of wrecked xlrs for sale.

I saw this XLR on Ebay and thought it looked like a reasonable price and a moderate rebuild.

Cadillac : XLR Cadillac : XLR | eBay

No structural damage that I can see... cost for parts would be about $10,000 new. There is actually some salvage parts available now for XLR's. There was nothing available salvage when I did mine back in '08. This one isn't nearly as bad as mine was. Mine was hit in the front hard. The big thing about putting these back together is all the support structure has to be pretty exact before it's structurally glued (that's right... I said GLUED) together. Then the fenders, etc simply bolts on. My guess in by the time it's completed, you'd have around $25-30,000 total it... that's paying someone to complete the rebuild and refinish.
I also don't see any problems with the gaps in the top structure... my guess is it would work just fine. But, before I did the final purchase, I'd want to see the top go down and up, just to be sure.

Ouch! That other photo that was posted sure tells a different story!

Here's a question for you tech-savvy XLR folks : What is the piece of equipment just to the rear of the right-front wheel? It appears to have 3 red lines on it.

That is the TCM & the 3 red pieces are the CPAs (Connector Position Assurance) for the 3 wiring harness connectors. Once the connectors are installed on the TCM (or any module), these slide through the latch to make sure it can't come unlatched.

Wow! about 4" of water and that TCM is soaked. Guess I don't want to be driving when there is any water on the road.

I don't get this ..... on Ebay it says this car has never been in an accident .... so, any one have a guess on why it is in a salvage yard??

It is mentioned in their listing & in the Carfax that it has a "salvage title." That says that it was in an accident--or worse. . .

Also it states in the heading:
2004 Cadillac XLR damaged wrecked rebuildable salvage Low Miles Low Reserve 04!
