2009 Radiant Silver XLR
Hi Guys I just picked up an 09 Silver XLR a month ago. Having a blast learning about what the car has to offer, too bad its getting cold and the car will have to stay in garage till spring. My question after reading about some of the repair horror stories, I was wondering if anyone is aware of a good repair shop or Dealer on Long Island.. Thanks Steve

welcome and good luck. AL:thumbsup

yes welcome and i hope you find what your looking for now. because the winter time is better to and fix what needs to be done rather then in the middle of top down cruising season. Good luck

Thanks for the well wishes. Its been a long time since I first saw an XLR, Its feels awesome to finally own one. Looking foward to a long lasting Ride..

Congratulations on your purchase, we know you will enjoy it. :thumbsup

Sorry, I can't help you with your question except to suggest you ask your local dealers if they have a XLR trained tech on staff. All Caddy dealers have Cadillac Certified Tech's on staff but be persistent and ask if they have an XLR specialist. (I think there is a special name for that certification?, but you can just ask for an XLR specialist) If they do, chances they are on of the larger volume dealers in the area. If they don't, that does not mean they can't help you with your car as they have access to all the service manuals, but if you run into any 'unique to the XLR' issues (a big one would be top function) then it would make a big difference if they have an XLR certified guy. I have an 09 and have never had any serious issues yet, knock wood :pat:

One thing I can however tell you that you should purchase a Battery Tender as the XLR must have one for storage.

WELCOME to ownership of the most unique automobile on the planet, IMHO anyway. I just put my XLR down for it's LOOOONG winter's nap, myself.:bawling: But, that first drive in the spring is like , WOW, I can't believe I own this automobile!!!!:jaw: Supposed to have 8 1/2 inches of the white stuff on the ground by Monday evening!!

Thanks I didnt know there is a XLR tech specialist. I will have to look into it when I bring the car in. I dont have a battery tender but own a charger (just have to stay on top of it) Sorry to hear about the 8 1/2 of snow coming your way. We have a Sunny day here taking car out for what might be it last run for the season...

Well, you know it's about time we get snow. In past years we have snow on the ground by now. This has been quite the unusual fall for us in Montana. Supposed to be 60 degrees today and 24 tomorrow. 25 on Tuesday and 13 on Wednesday. BRRRRRRR!!!!

So I go on what I think is the last ride of the year..Few blocks from home I hear what I think is a wheel bearing noise. Car is mine a little over a month. Look up prices on line ( no sure what the problem is ) for a wheel bearing I see $114 , $470 and $1400 glad I went for extended warranty..

Yep I'm glad I purchased mine. Even though I had to pay out of pocket for my weather strip for the trunk, the rings for the engine area were covered whew. I was watching a slow leak for a month or so. Then when the drops got a little larger. I thought it's time to take her in for a looksy. Glad I did have that warranty. Now if they only helped with the inside door panels. The leather is starting to discolor.

A charger is great if you are dead but a Battery Tender will keep you from dying in the first place. These cars have active security systems , computers etc that constantly drain the battery. My rule of thumb is if I am going away for more than two weeks it gets hooked up. There is a lead that you attach permanently to your car so all you need to do is plug that in. If you let your battery run down you will have problems getting into your car and will have to 're-learn' many of the functions. Total PIA (Pain In the :bootyshake: ) when that happens.

ABSOLUTELY ask Santa for at Battery Tender for Christmas. There are other brands but I personally only buy the Battery Tender brand: flawless performance. (we have a fleet of old cars and motorcycles all hooked up when not in active use. (Not a trickle charger: a battery tender only operates when it is needed to top up the battery.) I am fairly sure they are under $50.00 and that will pay for the frustration factor alone on one dead battery that you will only discover when you want to go for a drive.......Just Sayin'

Battery tender added to Christmas wish list. Funny, a guy who recently bought a $45,000 car wants a $50.00 tender for Christmas..

Welcome to The XLR Site. - Nice Car! : )

Per others comments, pretty much every Cadillac Dealer will tell you that "their Tecs are trained on all Cadillac Models including The XLR". Don't buy into it. One indeed needs to have access to a real XLR Specialist. One of the biggest problems that I have read about is uniformed dealers and others damaging, as in 'crushing' the rocker panels because of improper lifting of these vehicles.

Welcome and congrats!

Per other member's posts here, almost evey Cadillac Dealer Service Dept will say soemthing like, "Our Tecs are trained on all Cadillac Vehicles including The XLR". Don't buy into this. Requires an "XLR Specialist". Luckily our local Caddy Dealer does have two such XLR Specialists.

Welcome to the site.
