best coolant to add?

Well, the coolant level certainly has to be adequate, after that, best look around for leaks. I've had coolant tank levels drop for no reason (in my opinion) so I guess with time they -can- evaporate or maybe get released from the system via overpressure when running (typical radiator overflow hose on to the ground somewhere / sometime you don't notice).

I'd top up the tank to the proper level, go for a drive and watch the temp gauge and of course, for any warning lamps.
