Cadillac CIEL must see!

I LIKEEEEEE!!!! PERFECT 2nd car!

Just the Facts:
  • Cadillac designers summon the brand's rich heritage as they begin to define the shape of a future flagship.
  • The four-door convertible is a foot longer than a Cadillac CTS, and seats four adults in comfort.
  • Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 and an electric motor, with a combined output of 425 horsepower.
PEBBLE BEACH, California — Cadillac provided a glimpse into the brand's future design direction with the introduction here late Thursday of its Ciel, a four-door, four-passenger "grand touring car."
Described as "a new expression of Cadillac's historical grandeur," the Ciel "suggests where the brand can go in the future," according to Cadillac design director Clay Dean.
A statement released by Cadillac said the Ciel is "a grand gesture that explores themes driving Cadillac's explorations into range-topping flagship luxury."
Cadillac next spring plans to roll out a successor to its aging DTS sedan. The new front-wheel-drive XTS will arrive in showrooms as a 2013 model.
But the division has not had a true luxury performance flagship since the demise of the Corvette-based XLR roadster in 2009.
The Ciel — French for "sky," pronounced see-el — is quite a different animal.
In fact, the car is enormous, with a wheelbase of 125 inches, compared with 115.6 inches for the big DTS sedan. The Ciel is slightly shorter than the DTS, at 203.7 inches overall, but is more than a foot longer than the Cadillac CTS sedan.
The Ciel's hybrid powertrain also offers a clue as to Cadillac's future thinking on drive systems.
The Ciel bundles a twin-turbocharged version of General Motors' direct-injection 3.6-liter V6 with an electric motor, with power distributed to all four wheels through a hybrid transmission. Combined output is 425 horsepower; torque is 430 pound-feet. Electricity is stored in a lithium-ion battery pack.
Developed at GM's North Hollywood Design Center under the direction of Frank Saucedo, the Ciel appears to embark on a different styling path that both hints at the future and recalls past classics — including the landmark 1961 Lincoln Continental convertible.
The Ciel features a pillarless four-door design, with rear-hinged rear doors, much like the '61 Lincoln. The exterior is painted Cabernet, with nickel-plated accents, a polished-aluminum windshield frame, a prominent grille, vertical LED headlamps and taillamps, plus massive 265/35R22 tires mounted on 22-inch milled billet aluminum wheels with brushed nickel plating.
The stylists in GM's advanced design center clearly had some fun with the cabin, in keeping with the car's open-air theme.
The cockpit swaddles four adults — two couples, according to Cadillac's press material — in luxurious comfort, with Italian olive wood, hand-tipped leather, machined aluminum and nickel-plated trim in abundance. Ambient lighting sets the mood at night.
A "minimalist" transparent gauge cluster provides dual digital/analog readouts from within a brushed-aluminum housing, while a "floating" center console runs the full length of the interior, providing hidden connections and inductive charging for occupants' digital devices.
All four seats are heated and cooled, and each has a drawer containing sunglasses, towels and suntan lotion. Aromatherapy is controlled from the rear armrest. There is zippered storage in the doors, a humidor stocked with cigars in the rear console and a pull-out cashmere blanket that covers the rear-seat passengers.
Inside Line says: Throwback or avant garde — what do you think?

What a beautiful car! I sure would like one of these - to replace my aging DTX. Twin Turbo 3.6 Direct Injection V6 - hmmmm, interesting. 400+ hp. I like it! :rocker:

Very nice. But they need to rework the Acura smiling butt...
