I looking to install a Ceramic heat tunnel plate... my question is should I install a new shifter cable while I'm doing this job?
My XLR has 92k on her and I already have a cable in the garage hanging!

IMHO, that would be an ideal time. Taking out those 36 bolts is time consuming as it is. Preventive maintenance.

Absolutely! I just finished doing the exact same thing. You already have to drop the exhaust pipes and tunnel plate anyway and if you are at 92k miles it is just a matter of time before you loose connection with your transmission because of the grommets. The tunnel plate did make a difference and dropped the console temperature, but it still gets slightly warm.

Plus the exhaust would be off, although my shifter seems ok just thinking ahead when it breaks your pretty much dead at that spot!

Which plate did you install?
I'm ordering the elite one with Ceramic and insulation sheet plus the plate is I think 1/4" thick.

That's the one. Very well made. Your cable may be fine right now, mine was too, but when I had the tunnel plate off I noticed the plastic/rubber bushings that connect to the shifter and transmission were getting soft from age and exposure to heat from the exhaust system and were ultimately going to come off the metal post they were attached to. It's just a matter of time and I didn't want to be left stranded on my trip to Tucson Az in December. Cheap insurance!

I just thought of another possibility who has seen what it looks like up under the tunnel plate is there room up inside there to add any other insulation product. I've been researching different products for heat reduction, but don't know if it possible to do anything in the tunnel area. If anyone has pictures of this please post mine XLR is still in storage and calling for possible blizzard conditions here in Pa next Tuesday that where she will stay! Thanks in advance for anyone's interest in helping with this heat issue!

In all honesty, I've not noticed a heat problem with our 06, and wife has not noticed it either. It's completely stock, but I'm considering getting the heavier plate just to stiffen things up a little more> And I'll be getting the one with the ceramics because I'm afraid the heavier plate will conduct and retain heat more then I really might have a problem with a hot console

My understanding is they fixed this problem on 06 and up..... all I know is my 05 gets so hot that I've put a towel on the drivers side console when driving long trips, passenger side is just warm compared to drivers side!
