My XLR/V(s)
2005 Black Raven XLR
I am just about to order my lockpick for my XLR and Iphone. Does anyone know if the GMX322 or the Gen6 lockpick will work with the XLR? I would love, repeat love, to have the availability of a backup camera.

I have tried emailing the company, but I am not getting a response.

Thanks for the help.

If you take it to an Auto Audio shop they will tell you right away just act like your interested in buying it for them to install. They will answer all your questions.

So.....is that a yes or a no?

I dont know I had a Ipod cable installed at a place called the Specialist here in Tucson and I like mind quite A lot. At that time they didnt have Ipnones out yet so I really dont know. I know they had to have a GM connector and two other cables. I had it installed in my center console.

Unfortunately there is only one lockpick that works on the XLR and it is not as feature-rich and capable as the versions they have on there for different and newer models. I will paste my post from an other lockpick thread in case that helps you make your decision its still a pretty usefule application especially if you have an iphone 4

There are several threads related to this topic so rather than start a new one I will just add to the existing ones.

As far as music goes the lockpick is a pretty good application. At first glance it may seem somewhat disappointing considering how many features are offered for versions designed for other, or newer model Cadillacs. But if you are looking to add to the audio experience of your XLR without spending a fortune and preserving the factory appearance of the interior the lockpick is the way to go.

Cost is reasonable in my opinion and installation (if you have done a little homework ahead of time) is rediculously easy. eCoastaltech's website makes it appear as though there are two different versions depending on if your XLR currently has an XM module or not. This is misleading, the only difference is the settings has one switch in a different position. Weather your XLR has an XM module or not is irelevant because the wiring is already connected to your stereo and easilly accessable to attach the lockpick.

For those of you who will be going ahead and adding this to your XLR, my biggest advice is to not access the XM module from the trunk!!!! I have seen this many times in many different websites and forums but it is a complete waste of time. To get to it in this way, you must crawl halfway into the trunk, move the protective cover out of the way, and awkwardly reach past various supports and mechanisms for the roof and trunk lid.

Here is the 5-10min installation procedure...
Get a torx skrew driver, open your center console cubby between the seats. Remove 4 skrews and pull the console out. The wiring harness wrapped in black wire wrap is the XM wiring you are looking for. If you have XM it will obviously be connected, if you do not it will be just hanging there waiting for you to plug your lockpick into it. Now connect your lockpick to the XM wiring, and your music device to the lockpick with the wires provided by coastaltech. Installation at this point is basically complete! Depending on how you want to access the device you have some choices to make as far as where to run the wires. As you can see Monepit's is pretty a pretty cool custom job without a whole lot of difficulty. I decided to go with a little less effort so I drilled a small hole in my storage cubby and put the connections thru there. After my research online and some much appreciated advice from Monepit, it took me just over 15 minutes to complete this.

You can control the playback of songs on your ipod thru the XM mode of your stereo screen. It can do RW/FF, prev/next track, prev/next playlist, and it will display some song info on the screen as well if it is correctly tagged in your itunes. You can not search thru your library on the screen, but if you cue it up on your ipod before plugging it in it will resume when you turn your stereo on.

By utilizing the second input on the lockpick, you can use just about any audio device that has a headphone jack. I chose to use my iphone 4 like Monepit because I absolutly love Pandora internet radio. On the screen it will show up as GM AUX and you can only control playback on the device itself (as far as I have experiencded).
I even stream Netflix thru my phone and the audio plays on the Caddy's bose! Probably not to useful for action movies or stuff you have to see, but I watch a lot of documentries and comedians so I dont mind just listening and its probably a lot safer that I am not distracted by a beautiful actress or a cool car chase scene haha

I better bring this to a conclusion because I didn't intend this to be a long article. In a perfect world I would love to get a mini computer like an Alpine or Pioneer that is capable of integrating my phone bluetooth, ipod, and have a great display and user interface with navi and all that cool stuff. When I get my STS or Escalde I am sure I will explore those options. But in the XLR I just don't want to modify so much of the wiring and electronics to get it to function properly. Also for those head units you are looking at anywhere from $1000 - $2500 and instalation and various kits and harnesses. My lockpick was $129 and I installed it myself faster than I could smoke a Marlboro 100! I know have access to an infinite amount of music easily, and stealthily. All I need now is to make up my mind about this Bluestar Bluetooth kit and the multi-media aspect of my XLR will be complete.

Thanks again to Monepit for his help!
And anyone who would like more information about any of this feel free to message me I am happy to help!

What model/part number is this device?

I got my lock pick today. Using the interior access it was relatively easy and quick. However, I have a problem: XM is working fine, IPOD recognizes the lock pick, car does not recognize the IPOD. I have disconnected and changed the lock pick switches through the options. Still not recognizing the IPOD.
Hopefully there is a simple solution - please tell me what I have done wrong!!!:willy_nilly::dunno::willy_nilly:

lockpick

I bought the lockpick last summer for `06 xlr and it worked great for about one month. Now it just squeels without putting out any music. Been unable to get any help from CoastalTech on how to service this problem. To get the lockpic to see your ipod go to XM2 screen and touch the #6 channel preset button. Its been about a year since I`ve tried to use it but, I think the process is correct. Good luck.

Coastal Tech customer support is lacking. After not hearing back from them for four (4) days I packed the unit up and sent it back. If you go with lock pick make sure you download the installation instructions. Install is very easy using the interior access option posted on this thread. Don't expect much help from Coastal. The day after I sent the lock pick back I got a call from a strong accented individual who informed me that after install you can access the screen for your IPOD / Iphone through XM 1 or 2 and choosing #6 preset on the XM screen. I could have sworn that I tried all presets before I sent it back. It would have been nice to have that information in their install instructions or someone available. When you call them at their 800 / 888 number you always get voicemail or a recording that the number dialed does not have voicemail set up at this time. What a half a#s operation. :patriot:

Never had a problem with my lockpick. I do know when you are switching to your ipod/itunes, you have to push and hold preset #6 until it switches over. Easy installation and operation. Maybe they changed their installation instructions, I never had a problem--I've put two of them in both XLR's I've had. Sorry you had problems, maybe give it another try, there's not much out there for adding this to your car.

lockpic

As I`ve stated above I put one in my`06, lasted for a month. All that noise it was producting was a short that was killing my battery. Couldn`t keep the battery charge, it wouldn`t even take a charge. Replaced my battery under warrenty and that battery soon died. The only electrical unit in the car not working right was the lockpick.....took the p.o.s. out and no more battery charge problems. If yours starts to make squelching noise instead of music....get rid of it.

Thats really funny. I've had my lockpick in the car since I bought it. I listen to it every day, and I've never pushed preset 6 once. What exactly does that do?

It switches the head unit from XM to your MP3 player and vice versa. If you don't have XM radio you may not have to do it.

If you are not happy with the coastal solution check out the USASPEC product as http://usaspec.com/ I have used this product on both my 05 and now my 08 XLR and it works perfectly with all iPods through iphone 4 and even has an aux input for other mp3 players.

So how did you order it. When you go to the vehicle selector and select Cadillac, XLR it will not let you select a year or go any further.:dunno::dunno:

There are some other threads in here which I followed which uses the older model PA-11Vette. You can find this on ebay or other sites, but is not available directly anymore. The newer version of this is the PA-15Vette which I have not tried and the PA-50Vette which has a bluetooth module option.

Again I have used the PA-11Vette and you need to ensure it comes with the cable for the iPhone 4.

pa 11 vette interface

I found 3 different places on e-bay that have this interface for sale but, they don`t list the xlr as being compatible. It seems to work by the same method as the pos from coastaltech. Is the pa 11vette the on you use on your car without any problems? Thanks.

I have found that they won't indicate the XLR as being supported. I installed the Pa-11 in my 2005 with the XM harness but without the XM reciever and in my 2008 with the XM reciever with zero issues. The install takes no more than 20 minutes. Make sure you have the T-15 torx screw head so that you can open then back storage area.

I use mine with an iPhone 4 , my ipod 3rd generation, my sons ipod 4th generation and a host of different things hooked through the aux rca interface.

I just purchased a blackberry media gateway which I will install in the arm rest and plug into the lighter there. It will turn on when my car turns on - sync over bluetooth to my Motorola Atrix android phone and through the pa-11 aux interface I will be streaming wirelessly.

If that works I will post a pictorial for those to see.

Make sure who ever you get the pa-11 from that IT INCLUDES the update ipod/iphone cable - there is an old and and new version. The old version WILL NOT work right with 4th generation devices.
