Help! Engine Light

Has anyone had this problem? Our engines intake air comes through two filters, go through a plenum with the mass air sensor in it, then into the two flat compartments that have a round plenum in the center, then a corrugated rubber boot attaches to that that plenum on one end and to the engine on the other. Where the rubber boot attaches to that plenum , it appears that plenum , which should be round, has been severely affected by engine heat and was allowing air to escape, therefore causing the engine light to come on. I managed to get the boot back on and tightened up the clamp, and it was ok and passed smog after the engine light reset. Then last night after 2 weeks, the light came on again, I checked the boot and it looks still secure. Any ideas?

It could be caused by many different things, up to and including a bad gas cap. Did the gas cap get checked as part of your emissions testing (my state does check them). Maybe they damaged something when they checked it? It's a pretty cheap fix.....

Thanks for reply, T he gas cap was my first item, as all who don't know, there has been lots of problems with those, but unfortunately it just couldn't have been that easy
