Factory rim spec

I've been lookin' all over the place for advice and specs for "upgrading" the 2005 Cadillac XLR wheels.

(To me they're boreing)

I L-O-V-E the late model Corvette (C-6) Wheels,, but some say the Offset is too dramatic in the rear "19X9".

Will the front, (18X8) still work on all 4- corners???

Hey John,

I purchased a set of C6 wheels from Tire Rack a couple of years ago and I had no problems with them fitting my car.

18X8.5 5-4.75 ET56 SE C6 is the description that was on Tire Rack's website. The rims are discontinued now, but I think this information will give you the correct offset you are looking for. They look great on the car. I changed mine out because the OEM rims did not show off my beautiful powder coated brakes. Now they really POP.

Hope this helps. You might want to give MidAmerica Motorworks a call too - I think Gizmo bought some nice vette rims from them (but he has a V - so his rims are 19"). Maybe this Sept, you can come on down to Funfest (and party at Bobfest with us XLR folks in the evening) and they can fit the rims right on your car, to make sure they fit.

*** I just realized you are in CA - but it would DEFINITELY be worth the drive to Bobfest!

Happy cruizing. :rocker:

Thanx "Chicago Dave"

Thanks bud and to Stella, but I still don't have a specific answer to my question.

I'm willing to do the C-6, 18X8's on all four corners, but I'd like to do the silver/grey that is stock on Late model vettes:
Similar to: 18x8.5J x 56 Model # 9594346

It all goes back to the width, offset and amount of rubber outside you are wanting to show outside the fender. It can all be calculated using arithmetic. The stock wheels on my V are 8.5" with a 61mm offset.

I suggest you decide on a tire model you want before making any changes to make sure they will fit and are available in a size that has close to the same diameter as stock.

An 8.5" rim with a 56mm offset will obviously accept the same size tire, but it will be about .2" further to the outside. That is not a lot of change and think it PROBABLY will work.

Also keep in mind that the quality of the wheel is very important if vibration is of any concern. I spent $200 in return shipping on some C-6 style wheels because they had so much run-out they could not be balanced.

Be prepared for the discussion of lug-concentric vs hub concentric too. This is a point of dis-agreement among many Corvette owners. Our XLR use the same hubs, and same method, as the C6. This effects the balancing method and whether or not centering rings are used. IMHO our wheels are lug-concentric.

If you every want to retrofit the upgrade brake package you need to keep that in mind too

Maybe stating your specific question would help.

Hey phrede was in a conversation awhile ago about the suspension not to bring back a sore subject. Been able to get aquatinted with the car a little better. Going back to hitting a bump randomly. I live in Chicago and the roads aren't bad but sewer caps that are 1" to low or railroad tracks even a nice crack in the road aren't very good on these cars. Have been in other deville's, STS,DTS,and so on. I think the ride is nice as can be but I personally don't get the full Cadillac ride from her. To me the car feels like it's on a track or something and when you hit something in the road it feels more like a side to side movement then up and down. I am by no means nocking the car just wanted to put my 2cents on the deal. The care is sophisticated but it's not that smart. If summer ever get's around I'll really b able to test her out.:willy_nilly:

I agree and understand. Life is a compromise and and IMHO an XLR does not have the ride of a DTS. The SRX is different still. Based on what it is and what it is supposed to be, it has a great ride. Comparing it to a Corvette or some Euro performance coupes would be a better comparison.

Keep in mind also that it is a convertable which has it's own set of issues with ride and handling. I prefer to not give up my top down rides.

We will never know how that DTS handles at 150MPH, will we?

Yeh probably not good comparison, and your right 155 with the top down can't compare. Just had read that someone rantin and ravin that it's a Cadillac and the classic line "nothing drives like a Cadillac". Yes they were right to some degree but forgot about "you have to give to get" and with the xlr you get a lot in a small package. Really wish they didn't make them so tamper proof.

If you read the thread someone butted in about the suspension adjusting milliseconds for random bumps in the road and how so advanced it is. Little advice you should watch your mouth when you don't know!

WTF does your comment have to do with the topic??:pat:
You have a pretty strong attitude for someone so new and asking for advise. I suggest you read the WHOLE thread. Then if you have a question ask it instead of complaining about how no one is answering.

People here will try to help if you stay cool.

Ok,...OK,...OK,.......

When it's true that I may have an attitude problem, you may want to consider that I am RETIRED from the California Prison System and results were few, there too.
As for being "New",.......?

We come from many different backgrounds here. The fact that you spent time in a prison may be interesting but not really pertinent.

What are you asking about being new? I don't know ......

I suggest if you seek a reasonable response present a reasonable question that people can understand what you are asking. I've seen a lot of talent on this board but have not yet met a mind reader.

You should b happy retired, sweet car what else you need . Remember you catch more flies with honey not vinegar.:pat: happy drivin!

I can't tell you from experience but from what I've read if you want 18/8.5 rims I think with a 56 offset you'll be okay. That depend's too if you want real wide tires or not. If you go with the 19 in the rear it's a little tighter. By the time I burn up these stocker's I'll b doing the same conversion

OK,.....

After reading through the prior posts, (Thanks Chicago) and being on the phone with GM/Cadillac Technical, (Mostly on 'Hold') to double check, the offset on my stock wheels is,.......(Drumroll) 61mm.

Now, being that this is the original design specs, I need to find the closest match to C-6 Wheels I can.

I think the only difference is, stock is 8" and C-6 is 8-1/2" width.

Any users out there to help Stella and myself?

The 61mm offset is also stamped on the inside of your wheels if you did not believe me in my posts here. The stock XLR-V width is 19X8.5". A 18" stock wheel may only be 8", IDK. The only Corvette C6 to have an 8.5" width are the base and Z51 models on the front only (18" diameter). The other models are all different.

What do you want to know specifically?
