I'm new to the XLR community. Recently purchased a 2005. I noticed that in the daytime (with light switch in auto position), the flash to pass feature is inoperative. At night, when the headlights are on, the flash to pass feature works. Is this normal?

Short answer is yes. The HID lamps were relatively new to autos back when these were built. There is only one element to these lamps and low and high beam is regulated by a 'door or gate' that limits the amount of light. Also these lamps are ignited by high voltage to start; and 'starting' and 'stopping' (turning them on and off rapidly) are hard on the lamps.

Thanks. I thought that might be the case, having read about the high/low beams being a mechanical "shutter" on the bulb which I can hear when I change from low to high, but figured it was worth asking in case something was not operating as intended.
