Has anyone ever damaged their trunk lid while opening or closing the top?

Hi All,
I'm not sure about you, but whenever I park in a garage- I always look for the spot with the highest ceiling level.
Because of the unique way our top retracts (unlike the typical clam-shell), I'm often concerned that there's not enough vertical clearance to open the trunk lid to raise/lower the top. :(
Has anyone actually ever raised the lid where there ceiling was too low? Did it damage the lid? Was it an expensive repair?

Whenever I'm in my garage. I make sure the garage door is just barely open. Then I raise the roof. But this is only if its raining really bad outside. Otherwise I don't take the chance in the garage.

No, thank goodness. In my garage I know that I have enough overhead clearance. However if I park in a commercial garage I get out of the car and manually raise the roof. If I see that there is not enough space for full deployment then I quickly press the button and stop the assent.

There are some things you really have to think about with this car (raising the top, filling with gas, hiding the keys from the teenagers-lol, etc)

I like hiding the keys from teenagers...... My nephews are asking me to hand over they keys to them. I said heck no. That family can't afford to fill it with gas. Also I'm afraid if I give it to them they'll put the wrong gas in the tank. Also it'll be scratched up more and more. They don't really take care of their vehicles.

Yes, with the trunk lid up and the garage door open, my grandson tried to close the garage door (hinge type) with the button on the wall and the door hung up on the trunk lid and lucky for me I was able to stop him from raising the door back up because the trunk lid and the garage door were jammed together! I had to release the door from the auto garage door opener mechanism and while I pulled down on the trunk lid, I had my grandson gently push up on the door until the lid and door seperated so I could push the lid button to close the trunk lid.
There's a 1" scarch on the lid just in front of the lid light assembly, right in the middle of the top of the lid caused by a part of the door hardware.
I was lucky as I know that if I hadn't stopped my grandson from trying to reverse the garage door, I would have to replace the tail light assembly and I don't even want to think about the damage to the hinging assembly of the trunk lid.

WB6BBZ sorry to hear about that scratch. Gald to hear that's all you got out of it even though that's too much in itself. I'm lucky, I have just enough room with the door wide open the trunk lid doesn't touch.

I opened the trunk without thinking about the clearance and I lucked out, I had about an inch of space between the tip of the trunk at the emblem and the door. One more pound of air in the tires I might of hit it.

BTW: My stickers that show how much air you should put in your tires and the tire size ect. is NOT on the driver's door jam. I have no idea where it's located or if the previous owner removed it. What is the correct tire pressure that the lable says for front and rear tires? I've got all 4 set at 32 psqi cold. I don't have run flats, they are HX MX??? Mitches. The same letters without the ZP at the end. They are new, put on by the dealer.

Sorry it I went off topic but I would have forgotten to post about the tire pressure.

Bad outside

What's rain? Kidding, we only get rain between Jan & March. When I bring my car in for a car wash everyone wants to know why. Dirty air, doncha know!

PSI

I do 30 psi all around in the summer because they get up to around 36 psi with the hot roads and 33 psi in the winter and they stay at that all day, and have used Nitrogen but if it sets for 5 days it stilled leaked, so I just use good old free air.

It's actually smog particles gathering dirt the weight them down to settle on our shiny cars.

That's why I keep mine in the garage or covered out side.
