Ultimate tips

Well those are the ultimate in exhaust tips for the XLR. Unfortunately they will not work with the dual mode mufflers on a V. The dual mode V mufflers have two separate pipes on each muffler exiting from the rear of the muffler. I sure like the looks of that tip tho.

Do you have a picture of the V near the tip?

I'm sure they just reconfigured the outlets on the mufflers for the 09 V models. They use the same bumper and tip style. Thinking about it they could open the inlet on the tips for dual pipes. :dunno:. Definitely the best looking tips I've seen:thumbsup.

XLR-V mufflers

Here is a shot of a pair of V mufflers that came off a 2006 XLR-V. They were stripped and painted heat resistant silver and the tips and valves were polished. They are the same as a 2009 XLR-V, I compared numbers when I had both.

The exhaust tips are very Detailed, light weight using thin material. I was expecting it to be a heavier gauged metal, but it's beautiful and strange looking at the same time.

Upon reviewing the 2009 Platinum exhaust tips I think it's possible a person could tweak it to fit the XLRV using the 2009 rear fascia. Widening the opening and added material might be all that's needed. Then (maybe?) cutting part of the V- tips so as too fit inside the opening. Mainly, it's the surrounding chrome part that is the desired part. If I had a V I would be exploring this idea. As for making the part from scratch that's a challenge. There's lots of angles and the outer tip is contoured and polished. Well, enough of that for now.

Okay, the exhaust tip and shield is now ordered. For those that might want this modification here's a overview.

Once cut it appears that the 2009 Platinum exhaust tip slips right over the pipe? Hmm? I don't see any connecting parts from the diagram. I haven't gotten under the XLR to see if there's enough pipe (once cut) to fit into the part. If anybody has pictures please post, but I think this is all that is needed is too cut dual tips off leaving just the straight pipe.

I've just recently had this one made for my Base model - not as "exotic" as the 09 version, but it's an improvement over the stock tips in my opinion. added Cadillac logo in center since in second photo.

It's better looking than the OEM tips. Any pictures of the emblem used? Does yours have a heat shield? I'm headed to the shop to remove the tips now.

Thanks. Would like to have had the 09 exhaust but didn't want the expense of replacing/painting bumper plus the exhaust setup. I do not have a heat shield - talked to my muffler guy and he said he didn't think it was needed as there is so much metal in the tip fab and with the distance from the actual muffler, he felt the heat would disperse. Did put high heat reflective tape on a portion of the bumper as a precaution (whether it really does anything or not I don't know) but have checked the tip after driving 50+ miles and it was ok to the touch so I don't think there will be an issue. The logo/badge I put on is just put on with the adhesive tape it came with and it's not melted loose so I believe I"m ok.
Here's the badge I put on - off ebay:
Zoom in/enlarge the 2nd photo and you may be able to see it.

you should have about 6-8 inches of tailpipe coming off the muffler before the OEM tips attach. With the type installation your new setup has, it may be that the tailpipe off the muffler will just "float" inside the inlet on the new exhaust. Don't know, just guessing.

That's my guess too. Looks like it's floats inside the opening. However, I will need to take it to a muffler shop and cut ends off and add pipe on both side to turn inward by 1" per side.

Obviously, tweaking is in order either the exhaust pipes or widening out the 2009 part.
