Help !!!!! I can't get the map lights on the rear view mirror to extinguish - why ????

Whoa, Senior moment here - apparently ( ?) I hit the dimmer switch and then the map light on-off ' thus turning the map lights on . If everything else fails --READ THE INSTRUCTION !!! Which I did - problem solved. At this moment I'm thanking a teacher who taught me to read.
