Mystery Wheels

XLR 18" Wheels Continued.

I too like the look of the Spyder wheel. I wonder what the specs are and if a big brake kit would work?

This is what the '06-'08 V chrome option wheels look like.

Thanks Phrede and others. Very nice photo. Wheels may have been a Dealer option as you say. They are coming off tomorrow as I have found that the Centre caps are loose.

I have an email into LA Wheels but no response.

I will take measurements and photos of the backside of the wheels.
I appreciate everyones help.

I believe my 2008 has the BIG brakes. Rotors are cross drilled and Calipers have cast raised XLR on them.
later,
Gord.

The brakes on our cars arnt the big brake setup their talking about. We have a 4 piston caliper upfront and a two piston in the rear. Rotor size is 12.8 and 12.1. With a big brake set the calipers are 6 piston fronts and 4 piston in the rear. With a 13.4 front rotor and 13.1 rear.
With the V model they have the same calipers as ours but they have a special abutment bracket that allows the larger rotors but the same calipers. The big brake kit is very similar to a z06 corvette set up which will bolt up to our cars but you need wheels to clear the larger calipers and rotors.

These are definitely not Cadillac wheels. The first picture victor V posted are 2009 XLR platinum edition wheels. If yours is an 08 it most likely had the second posted picture he offered. Cadillac did offer another wheel, but I don't believe they we're put on at the factory, it was a dealer offered upgrade. Homegameroom has a set on his 04 base model. The only other Cadillac wheel is the 19", 10 spoke V wheel.

Btw, the center cap is a Cadillac center cap....for the V wheels.

These are the other spoked wheels that I've seen on acouple xlr's don't know if their factory installed or dealer installed.

I beg to differ with you, Stella. The(correction) front calipers on the base and V models are different. The V's use to same calipers as a Z51 Corvette set-up.

From all my research the calipers are the same. The only difference is the abutment bracket which brings the caliper farther from center allowing the larger rotors. Yes I knew about the z51 setup that's how I figured out the similarities with the V. The Front and rear setups are the same.

What is the source of your research? The calipers carry different part numbers and are visually different when viewed side by side. Can offer something more than an opinion? Are the piston part numbers the same? Rebuild kits the same?

I'm searching for a chrome, multi-spoke wheel similar to the Spyder or ZR-1 design in either a 20" or 19" diameter, 9" width w/ 56mm offset or 8.5" w/61mm offset with clearance for a big brake kit.

My research involved buying a set of the abutments z51 rotors and ceramic pads. Waiting to pull the trigger on a set of wheels just can't make up my mind. Yes visible the calipers look different one has a v logo and one say xlr. Other than that it's a two piston caliper. The z51 model is what platform I've chose to duplicate for my xlr.
As for the spyder wheels factory reproductions carries all the major models in a variety of sizes. Check ebay they have a lot too.

Corvette wheels for sure...

View attachment 3489Can anyone identify these wheels?

Perhaps Z-06 Vette?

I have searched many suppliers and cannot find similar ones.

The centre cap is not a true Caddy image.

Thanks,

Gord.

Those are the Corvette Z06 chrome "Spyder" wheels. I was torn on whether or not to buy those... Very nice wheels and they fit the XLR like a glove. If you're gonna stay with the 18" wheel size they have a +56 offset and quite naturally the fitment is 5X120.65 (5X4.75).

Thanks Eslic 1
I just had new Run Flats installed (a very heavy item) and love the wheels. I thought they were Z-06 but was told the owner got them from an aftermarket dealer in Carlisle Pa.
Thanks for the sizing info.

Regards
Gord.
